“Sophia!”
Leo’s cry is the last thing I hear before everything goes silent and black, and a thunderstorm of gunfire erupts all around me.
For a moment, life itself freezes. Then, my stomach drops, and it feels like I’m falling, plummeting through the darkness.
Strangely, though, I’m not afraid.
This isn’t so bad.
Somehow, this blackness isn’t cold or lonely.
No. It’s warm and alive and it smells like Leo.
… Wait..
“Hold on, baby,” Leo says, turning me around so that he’s on the bottom when we hit the ground
Before I even realize what’s happening, a sickening crunch breaks the eerie silence that has rushed into my ears.
Then, everything goes black again.
… When my eyes flutter back open, a searing pain has engulfed my entire body.
But that’s nothing compared to the pain I feel when I realize what just happened
“No!” A gut-wrenching wail tears out of my throat as I stare down at Leo’s pale, bloody face.
We fell. Leo jumped in front of me. He saved me from that bullet. He saved me from the fall.
Now, as I look down at his blood-spattered face, his eyes are closed.
“Leo!” I sob, desperate to touch him. But my hands are still cruelly tied around my back. “Leo!”
His arms are still wrapped around me, but I can’t feel his heat anymore.
“Please…”
I can’t touch his face, I can’t feel his heart. I feel so useless.
How do I wake you up, Leo? What can I do?
Fucking hell.
There’s only one thing I can do.
Filled with sorrow and desperate hope, I lean forward and kiss my dark prince on the lips.
At the very least, I get to taste his blood one last time. It mixes in with the hot tears running down my swollen face.
The longer he doesn’t kiss me back, though, the colder those tears become. Leo might have broken my fall, but there’s nothing left to catch my heart as it plummets down into the darkness below.
It’s over.
All hope is lost.
But Leo has never been one to give me up so easily.
Before I even realize what’s happening, I feel his lips start to move against mine.
