I need to make sure Sophia gets out of here safely.

That’s my job, and no one else’s.

Please be alright.

Ignoring the dread that wants to weigh down my heart, I push forward. Up ahead, I spot another pair of guards. Really, I should take them out with a knife, but thinking about Sophia has worn my patience thin.

There will be no getting into this factory without some noise. Might as well start the party now.

“Hey, you fuckers!” I shout.

Neither of them get a chance to see who just called out to them before I put a bullet into both of their heads.

I don’t stick around to admire my marksmanship. There’s no time for that. Ahead, I hear shouting. Gunshots follow closely behind.

The final battle has begun.

I’m coming for you, Sophia.

Sophia

“How the fuck did they find us so fast?” Retsos booms at one of his oversized goons.

My heart flutters at the confirmation.

Leo.

He’s here. It has to be him… right?

I don’t dare think of the dreadful alternative. Still, it weighs heavy on me, crushing out any hope I try to dredge up from the blackness in my heart.

“It must have been the Italians, boss. I don’t think they know that Castor doesn’t work with us.”

Just like that, the weight in my chest cracks, and a ray of hope bursts through.

Is Castor alive?!

“Fucking morons,” Retsos growls. Looking over his shoulder, he glares at me. “Grab the girl. We need to get out of here.”

“We should just kill her,” one of the goons snaps. His voice is trembling with nerves. “That way we—”

Before he can finish, Retsos slaps him across the face. “You fool! That’s how we die here. No one will shoot at us if we have her as a human shield. It’s the only reason I’ve been keeping her alive. She’s about as valuable as a bag of meat now, and nothing more. So fucking grab her, and hold her in front of you while we get out of this death trap.”

“You fucking coward!” I scream, trying so hard to break out of my restraints that the skin on my wrists and ankles has become raw and tender. But I don’t mind the pain. At least the tears are gone—at least Retsos didn’t get to use that knife on me.

Leo and Castor came right in the nick of time.

… I mean, Leo is here, too… right?

Yes. Just keep holding onto hope. He’s your dark prince. Your knight in black armor. He’ll save you from this monster.

“Stuff something in her mouth too,” Retsos orders, as both goons converge on me. “I’m sick of hearing her whiny fucking voice.”

“This voice will be the last thing you ever hear,” I promise him, as one of the goons picks me up. “Leo will make you kneel at my feet before he cuts off your head.”

“Who said he survived the explosion at the docks?” Retsos hisses. “We don’t even know that your precious Castor is alive.”
