“… You bastard…”

The weight of what he’s saying is almost enough to crush me. But I’ve sucked back all of my tears and I’m not sad anymore. I’m angry. Retsos has crossed so many lines. I’m willing to suffer whatever I have to just so that I can stay alive for long enough to make him pay.

“Aren’t you interested in why Castor thought he had to protect you from me for all of these years?”

“Because you’re a monster.”

“I thought I was cowardly?”

“You are a cowardly monster. You wanted to kill a newborn baby. What could be more cowardly than that?”

“I didn’t want to kill a newborn baby,” Retsos clarifies, shaking his head. “I wanted to kill a fetus. You were supposed to die with your mother.”

Just like that, my world implodes.

“You… you killed my mother?”

Black spots begin to litter my vision as I try to stay focus. But it feels like I’ve just been punched in the face again.

“I poisoned her until she could hardly even see straight,” Retsos shrugs. “Still, she was a tough woman, and she managed to give birth to you before she kicked the bucket.”

“You animal,” I choke.

There’s no stopping the tears that fill up my fluttering eyes.

“I’m a survivor,” Retsos hisses. “In this world, its kill or be killed.”

“She wouldn’t have tried to killed you…”

“That doesn’t matter. Your mother hated me. And with her whispering into your father’s ear, I would have never become an untouchable.”

“… You never deserved that title.”

“Yet, I got it. And you know why?”

“… Because you’re a monster,” I sigh, trying so hard to stay strong. But it’s impossible. Retsos killed my mother… and it sounds like he’s killed Castor and Leo too.

Leo…

My heart breaks.

“… Because I’m a winner,” Retsos says. Leaning forward, he wipes away a tear trickling down my cheek, a cruel smile filling his face with darkness.

“Now, what was my prize again?”

Leo

“Well, I’ll be damned. Looks like you were right.”

Somehow, Ray is still in high spirits.

It’s starting to rub me the wrong way. No one is allowed to be happy until I get Sophia back.

“You can give me my prize later,” Castor grunts. Pulling out his radio, he confirms that everybody is in position. “Are you sure you don’t need an extra pair of guns down there?”

“You’re more useful coordinating everything from up here,” I say, looking down onto the old factory that Castor’s contacts have led us to.
