“He’s being held by the Greeks?”

“That’s the bad news. My intel says they’ve stepped up security around his location. Ever since you stole Sophia, the area they’ve been hiding him in has been watched with increasing intensity.”

“Have you found any way in?” I need to have that fucker. With Castor in my possession, Retsos loses all leverage. That gives Sophia all the power.

And Sophia belongs to me. Which means I would have all the power.

But that’s not the only reason I want the Greek enforcer.

I need to make sure there’s nothing more between him and my princess. If I can trust Sophia on their relationship, then maybe I can trust her enough to seriously negotiate an end to this madness.

“Maksim is doing reconnaissance with some of your top assassins now.”

“Where?”

“You’ll never guess,” Ray chuckles, always one to find the humor in the darkest shit.

“Fortunately for me, I don’t have to guess shit. Spit it out, Irishman.”

“… Remember that vineyard you and Tomek ambushed all the way back when Nolan was holding Valentina captive?”

My heart stops.

No fucking way.

“Yes, I remember the vineyard,” I grimace, purposely doing all that I can to ignore Tomek’s name.

My older brother…

No. Forget the traitor. He doesn’t deserve to be remembered. Concentrate on what’s important.

“Well, if you’ll remember correctly, Nolan specifically chose the spot because it was the perfect place to defend a precious package.”

“Maybe before Tomek…” I pinch the bridge of my nose and force his name from my mind. “…Maybe before some asshole blew it to bits.”

“They apparently fixed it up. I’d bet their holding him in the same basement that the Kilpatricks held Roman in.”

“That’s not good.”

I remember how difficult it was to plan a siege on that place. Hell, the first time we even tried to get close, Roman was captured.

Roman Barinov. Captured. That had never happened to him before. He was a nightmarish legend. But Nolan Kilpatrick had picked his spot well, and he was just barely able to get the jump on my brother… and nearly on me too.

“It will make an extraction extra difficult, but I believe in you.”

“Oh, you’re not coming? I thought you’d be up for a challenge…”

“I’m always up for a challenge,” Ray replies. “But the Kilpatricks have saddled me with a particularly tough challenge here at home.”

“What do they have you doing?”

“I’m supposed to be keeping tabs on the Italians. Those fuckers are just looking for any sign of weakness. They hate that they have to bow to the Irish. If someone doesn’t keep them in check, then word might get out that the Greeks are involved in all of these bombings… that we’re involved in them.”

“Fucking Italians…” I grumble.

“Really, I should just nuke the whole lot of them and take over myself.”

“Maybe so…” I reply. Walking into the kitchen, I head straight to the window and make sure the blackout blinds are still firmly fastened into place. Sophia may have more freedom now, but no one can be allowed to see that she’s here. “Do you have anything else for me?”
