I can feel the burn of her palm across my cheek as she steps out of our circle.

“Back to the spectator sport, Marcus?” That fucking voice again, dangerously mild. To an untrained ear, bored even. “You said no one would see me, only you.” She starts to laugh, but it’s not a joyous noise. Xander’s coming out of his trance, staring at her. “Stay away from me, all of you.” She turns and walks away with her head high, smiling at people as she passes.

I can’t get my breath. I bend over and put my hands on my knees.

Gabe touches my back. “You ok, man? I’ve never seen you like that. What the fuck, brother.”

I look up at him and Xander, But Xan’s not paying any attention to me. He’s trying to see where Kitten went.

“Fuck, Marcus. She looked, she was, fuck. I, fuck.” Xander can hardly speak.

“Yep,” I say, knowing he saw what I did. And we had both lost our minds over it.

“You coming?” Gabe says to me as he moves towards the tents.

The tell-tale sounds of sex are much louder now as people are not being circumspect here. It’s in full view if you want it.

I look over to where Evie went, hoping she just needed a moment and would realise how much she loved, craved, what we did. What we could do. But I don’t see her coming back. Looks like that’s it then.

“Yes,” I nod and walk towards the tent with them both.

Xander looks at me, placing his hand on my shoulder. “I wouldn’t if I were you. I’d go find her. Take her to my room. Spend the night buried to the hilt, brother.”

I pat him on the cheek. “Well, you’re not me, Xan. But feel free if you think you’ve got a chance. I knew this would happen. She’s just not into the things I am.” Fuck I wanted her to be though. For now at least.

“You’re a fool. I’ve never envied you, but I do tonight. To have that and let it go? You’re insane.”

I huff at him as three women surround me, draping themselves on my shoulders, my back. They tell me they’ve been waiting for me. To come to my senses. Weird, because I think I may have permanently lost them somewhere.

But I don’t think too hard. I follow my bandmates, and carry on into the morning.

When I finally return to my room, it’s light out, and I’ve no idea of the time.

I’m just about to open my door when I hear her door open. I turn and smile towards her, but it’s not her. It's Will.

I take a step towards him when I see Evie coming up behind him. And in the room behind them, I spot Kenny and Grace.

“Didn’t want to do the tents, but happy for a foursome in your room, Kitten? You should have said. I could have brought the party and had a full on orgy. If I’d have known you just didn’t want to fuck me anymore, I would have gladly watched.”

She smiles at me. Fucking smiles.

I am steaming. The bitch. How dare she blow me out for fucking Will?

“Thanks for a great party, Marcus. I’m leaving a five star rating, just not sure for whom, though.” She taps the side of her nose twice with her index finger and smirks. “I’m not going to stay for the ‘family’ party. You know I can’t stand your family. And besides, it might be a bit tame for me, now the blinkers are well and truly off. So thanks for that.”

She moves around Will—who’s stood like a stone statue, looking at me about to go berserk—and kisses my cheek. I’m gritting my teeth so hard my cheek is rigid. Her eyes are totally dead.

“Happy Birthday, Marcus. Thirty-seven years old.” She smiles again, but I can’t tell if it's fake or not. She’s an amazing liar, always was. But never to me before. “Have a great time.”

Turning to her minions, she smiles wide and genuine for them. “Shall we?” Gesturing to the hall, they all file past her.

“Catch you later, Marcus. Hope you enjoy the rest of the clips I put together.” So fucking polite.

And I watch her walk away.

I don’t move for a long time. I’m not sure how long, but I’m still standing there when Xander comes to check on me.
