“Would you mind if I join you?”

I turn to find Ethan standing beside me, a blanket draped over his arm. His warm smile instantly puts me at ease, and I shake my head in response to his question.

“Not at all,” I reply, grateful for the company. As he wraps the blanket around my shoulders, his touch sends a shiver down my spine, the warmth of his proximity sending tingles of awareness coursing through me.

“Thanks,” I murmur, pulling the blanket tighter around me as I settle back against the railing. Ethan joins me, his presence a comforting anchor in the midst of my swirling thoughts.

After a while, Ethan breaks the silence, his voice gentle yet resolute. “Jessy, I know we’ve talked about this before, about being just friends. But I can’t shake the feeling that there’s something more between us. I want to be with you—to date you and explore what that is.”

His words hang in the air, and I’m momentarily speechless. Part of me wants to believe that he’s sincere, that there could be something real between us.

But another part is hesitant, wary of the potential consequences of crossing that line.

“Ethan…” I begin, my voice is hesitant as I search for the right words. “I...I don’t know what to say.”

He reaches out, gently taking my hand in his, his touch warm and comforting. “Just know that I care about you, Jessy. And I’m willing to take things slow, to see where this goes.”

I meet his gaze, seeing the sincerity and warmth in his eyes, and for a fleeting moment, I allow myself to entertain the possibility of something more.

“What if we go out on one date—just one.”

Ethan’s request catches me off guard, and for a moment, I’m at a loss for words. The idea of going on a date with him, just the two of us, feels simultaneously thrilling and terrifying.

“I...I don’t know, Ethan,” I reply, my voice tinged with uncertainty. “I mean, I appreciate the offer, but…”

He reaches out, gently placing a hand on my shoulder, his touch warm and reassuring. “Jessy, I understand you’re hesitant,” he says softly. “But I promise, it’ll just be one date. No strings attached, no expectations. Just two people getting to know each other better.”

I meet his gaze, seeing the sincerity and warmth in his eyes, and I find myself slowly nodding in agreement. “Okay,” I say softly. “One date. But just one, okay?”

A smile spreads across his face, and I can’t help but feel a flutter of excitement in my chest. Maybe, just maybe, this could be the start of something new and wonderful.

“Great.” He throws his arms open and envelopes me in a hug. I find myself melting into it, feeling a sense of comfort in his presence.

“You won’t regret it, Jessy,” he whispers, his voice filled with genuine excitement. “I promise you, we’ll have an amazing time together.”

Despite my initial reservations, I can’t deny the flutter of excitement building in my chest at the prospect of going out on an actual date with him.

As the night wears on, we remain ensconced in a comfortable silence, the only sound being the gentle rustle of the night breeze.

Ethan’s arms provide a sense of security as we gaze up at the twinkling stars above, lost in the vast expanse of the night sky.

Time seems to slip away unnoticed as we share this quiet moment together, each lost in our own thoughts, yet connected by the simple act of being together. There is a sense of peace and contentment in this shared space.

But eventually, the weariness of the day catches up with me, my eyelids growing heavy with sleep. With a reluctant sigh, I break the silence, murmuring softly.

“I think it’s time for bed.”

“All right then,” Ethan nods, giving me a kiss on my forehead before releasing me from his embrace as we both rise to our feet. With one last lingering glance at the stars above, I turn to make my way back inside.

“Goodnight, Jessy.”

“Goodnight, Ethan.”

Ethan

As the day of our date with Jessy approaches, I find myself unexpectedly nervous, a feeling I’m not accustomed to when it comes to other women. Usually, I’m confident and assured in my interactions, but with Jessy, it’s different. I want everything to be perfect, to impress her and show her how much she means to me.
