Finn studies himself and then looks me over. “Do ye feel any different? Is yer connection to Josie growing stronger?”

“The pull I feel towards our witch is a constant, but since you jumped the gun, I think I’ll feed and see what that does.”

Finn stops me with a hand on my arm. “Josie has given enough fer her first feeding.”

I shrug off his hand. “You got a taste. It’s only fair.”

“Do I get a say in this?” Josie says, her voice pitchy. “After all, it is my blood.”

“Are you saying that you don’t want that with me?”

It’s clear that she does. Fintan didn’t satisfy her. Not the way I can. But she and Finn are right. It has to be her choice. I shake off the hostility and ply her with a sultry smile. I move in closer, gently tug her into my embrace, and run my hands down her bare arm.

“It’s your choice, cher.” After brushing her dark curls out of the way, I bend and place my fangs at Josie’s neck. With a gentle, barely-there touch, I draw my tongue over the skin of her pulsing throat and revel in the shiver that wracks through her body. “What d’you say?”

JOSIE

Rune strips down and leads me over to the hot tub with Fintan in tow. As he lowers himself into the water, his bulk raises the surface more than a little. As he settles in, resting his huge arms along the back of the tub, he leans back and smiles at me. “So. You two were just innocently doing a little blood-letting? I really didn’t miss the main event?”

Vikings are fucking hot.

“No,” I breathe, still caught by the sight of him naked. “With so much undetermined… it’s probably best to take things slowly.”

“Convincing,” Fintan murmurs next to me.

Whatever. Mother Gaia unity bound me to them. I’m entitled to ogle. I’d much prefer a loving relationship with them rather than a master and slave or even a tortured prisoner relationship.

“It doesn’t smell like you two were taking it slow,” Rune says.

Fintan shrugs. “Fine. Kissing Josie was amazing, and we were about to WooHoo in hot tub. Is that what ye want to hear?”

My head whips around and I snort. “Sorry, what was that? Did you just say WooHoo? Have you been playing Sims?”

Finn offers me a vague shrug. “After decades of immortality, ye run out of productive things to do. Aye, I’ve played the Sims. And–perk of being a vampire–sleep isn’t technically necessary, so all-nighters are no problem.”

A huge smile spreads across my face. “I didn’t know you boys gamed.”

Rune nods. “Once, Finn stayed in his quarters for nearly an entire month.”

“That’s not true. I left to feed.”

“Point is,” Rune says, “Finn here is a huge nerd.”

Maybe being bound to these two won’t be so bad. Sebastian is an entirely different story. Being bound to him… I’ve been pretending it didn’t happen.

Maybe I could lure Egan here and feed Sebastian to him. Here, puppy! I’ve got a nice vampire steak for you. The errant thought triggers something in my mind. “Holy shit!”

Fintan meets my gaze, looking concerned. “Josie?”

“What if we wanted Egan to find us? What if we had something Egan wanted, and we could draw him to us?”

Rune frowns at me. “Did the hot tub raisin-ify your brain? Did Egan give you Stockholm Syndrome?”

“Ew, no! That guy is a complete tosser. What I mean is, what if we set a trap, a kind of binding ritual to keep him in place? Lure Egan exactly where we want him and bam! No more big bad wolf.”

“Congratulations, witch… you just started another war between the vampires and werewolves.”
