Crew: Nah, I need to dress up. I bought my suit for Luke’s wedding instead of renting it and that puppy is collecting dust

Nathan: Calla mentioned a new fancy restaurant downtown.

Crew: SAY LESS. Are you guys going to wear suits too?

No one had answered after that. I couldn’t even begin to consider a night out at this point.

I closed out of the app and pulled up my list of contacts. I wasn’t sure when Luke had become the most responsible in this group, but that’s where we were. After checking for traffic, I rounded the car again and climbed into the driver’s seat, then tapped his name.

He answered after two rings. “Hey, what’s up?”

“Hey, I’m stuck on Winchester Ave off 78. My tire’s flat, and I’m late for work. Could you come get me?”

A loud clattering echoed down the line. “Uh, I would, you know I would, but Nathan and Calla invited us to this Phillies event thing she’s working. We’re going to be here all day. Did you try Crew?”

No, and as much as I loved my youngest brother, he was the last person I would try.

“No, I’ll get to Adam.”

“Adam’s working with the recruiting office in New York today. Probably won’t be back till next week.”

I groaned, resting my head on the seat behind me. “When did you all get social lives?”

Luke laughed, but it sounded distant. “Look, I gotta go. Layla is wearing shorts, and I can’t really focus.”

With a huff, I yanked the phone from my ear and tapped End.

I was not going to call my mom. The last time I asked her to help me out, she babied me for five days straight. As much as I loved her, being treated like a teenager was weird.

With my siblings unavailable and my parents crossed off the list, that left one person.

“Well, would you look at that?” I couldn’t hold it in. It was too funny.

It was rare that I had the chance to make fun of Liam. In the most annoying way possible, the man was nearly perfect. Well, physically. Since joking about our marriage was out of the question, and since he was an incredible dad, I was left with very few topics to tease him about.

I was going to soak this in.

“Let’s not do this.” He hauled himself up from where he’d been leaning against his Audi and stalked toward me.

My car was not clean. It certainly wasn’t detailed in the way his probably was. But to be fair, I’d had this car for twelve years now. It had definitely seen better days. It was decorated with Bluey stickers on the windows, and the back seats were littered with toy trucks and Spiderman figures.

Listen, the disasters happening back there were none of my business.

“Oh no, let’s. I could have real fun with this.”

“Get it all out now,” Liam deadpanned.

I eyed the flat tire that had prevented him from getting to his precious job. “Do you want me to spare you?”

“Humph.”

“Are you flat-out tired of it?”

“Marigold, I swear the one time you joke around—”

“All right, all right. I’ll quit. Come on. We can probably get you to work on time. As long as there’s no pressure.”

Liam pressed the heels of his hands to his eyes and rubbed them, but a smile crept over his face. “Are you done?”
