Max’s two older kids and then Quinn’s two younger ones. He could see where Quinn looked at all four as hers.

“Max and Quinn?” he asked.

“Their wedding picture. Quinn is pretty basic. We don’t have a lot of family and aren’t that close to them. They got married in Lake Placid and it was small. Some of her friends and Max’s family. It was nice.”

“Were you there?” he asked.

“I was, my brothers weren’t. Brent’s wife, Annie, was pregnant and they couldn’t get the time off of work. Karl couldn’t make it.”

She didn’t say anything else and just looked down while she was packing. She never talked much about her one brother and nothing about her mother.

“That’s too bad,” he said. “My family is close. It’s annoying and frustrating, but I wouldn’t want it any other way.”

“I know you’re probably going home for Thanksgiving,” she said suddenly. She flung her bag over her shoulder. “I’m ready. I’m not going to change. I can do that at your place. It’s fine.”

She locked up and they walked back downstairs. “I’m not sure what I’m doing for Thanksgiving.”

“I thought you always went home,” she said.

“I do, but I wouldn’t mind spending time with you. I know you’re going home though.”

“That wasn’t subtle at all, Braylon,” she said, laughing.

“It wasn’t meant to be.”

“Quinn wants to meet you. She’s been bugging me to ask you.”

The taxi was still waiting for them and they made their way inside. He gave the address to his condo and they sat back. “Why haven’t you asked?”

“I just assumed you had to go home,” she said. “And I wasn’t sure if you’d want to go with me.”

“I do,” he said. “Don’t assume anything. Make sure you ask. I’d love to.”

“If you can get a ticket,” she said. “I shouldn’t have waited so long.”

“I’m positive I can,” he said. “As soon as we are at my place I’ll book it.”

“I’m glad,” she said. “I’d like you to meet the family that I’m close with.”

“I want to meet them too,” he said, threading their fingers together.

When they got to his place, Lilian changed out of her work clothes into leggings and a sweatshirt while he got out of his suit. He decided to take a quick shower while she got dinner going. He hated that she cooked for him when they were together on the weekend, but she always argued she didn’t like to go out much.

He knew it had to do with the fact he paid for everything.

“Dinner will be another ten minutes or so,” she said. She just had burgers in a pan and French fries in the oven. His mother always cooked burgers and fries like that too.

“I’ll make my flight arrangements. Do you know when your flight is?”

She pulled her phone out of her purse and forwarded him the confirmation she got.

“I’m sure we won’t be next to each other but on the same flight is close enough.”

He realized it was a small aircraft out of a privately owned airstrip. “How about I upgrade you to first class and then we can be together.” He’d rather fly in something bigger and show her some class.

“No,” she said. “I bought my ticket and I’m fine. You go first class if you want and we’ll meet there. That plane only has one class so you’d have to go to another airport.”

He wouldn’t do that. “No,” he said. “I can get a seat close to you.” He booked that and would let it go.
