“I left a beautiful and crazy freaky woman in my room to come down here. What do you need?”

“The investigation into the break-in at the deli. I have one of our detectives on it, but one of the guys they think did it is in hiding and they don’t know where he is or who his partner is.”

“Okay, what does Alec want to do?” I don’t answer him and he levels me with a look. “You haven’t told him?”

“No.”

“I’m going home in the morning. You need to make a plan with Alec, not me.”

“I know,” I say, rubbing my forehead. “I just thought I could stay out of it. She wants me to stay out of it, and I don’t want to explain to anyone why I’m so invested in this yet.”

Nico laughs, taking a seat in the leather club chair in front of my desk. “Vin, come on. A beautiful woman needs help only you can offer her and you’re trying to stay out of it? I saw how she looked at you in the club. And when she realized you were going to stay to help at the hospital? Vin, she looked relieved. Trust me when I say that women are fully capable of handling their shit, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they always want to.”

“You’re an expert at reading women all of a sudden?”

“I’ve always known what women want, brother.” He smirks, the damned bastard.

“Alright, so tell me then, what I should do when a woman who told me she doesn’t want my help anymore still kisses me like the world is fucking burning?”

“It depends what you want from her after that?”

I don’t even hesitate in my answer. “I want everything.”

“Then you need to help her anyway. Let her see your sincerity, Vin.”

Nodding, a plan starts forming in my head. One where Lexi won’t be able to resist coming back to me even angrier than today. And I can’t wait.

Chapter 7

Lexi

“Hey, Lex, how’s your grandpa doing?” Cassie asks when I call.

“He’s better. He thinks he’s ready to jump back into working once the doors are installed.”

“Lex, I know you’re super protective of him, but I think going back to work might just give him some sense of control again after everything.”

“I know,” I sigh, rubbing my forehead. “The doctors cleared him, too.”

“Is the deli going to open soon, though? Did you already get the doors fixed?”

“In a sense,” I say.

“And that means?”

“It means this morning my grandfather and I woke up to men working downstairs installing new doors and a security system with cameras and everything.”

“How’s that possible?”

“Vinny.”

“Vinny? Seriously?”

“Yes.”

“Oh, big mistake on his part.” She chuckles. “What did you do?”

“I went and yelled at him, and then he kissed me.”
