“Saro, brand please.” I extended my hand.

“Here you are.” A devilish grin curled his lips.

Bonnie stepped closer staring at Lungy. Flames of excitement flicked in her pretty brown eyes.

Holding the brand toward the ceiling, smoke curls wafted from the end of the tool.

“Franco?”

Her voice soothed me in a way no one had ever done before.

I turned my head to the side. “Yes, sweetheart?”

She stepped into view. A black long-sleeved dress hugged her breasts and mid-section, flaring out around her thighs. Powder blue shoe covers hid the black flats on her feet. And the bouffant cap concealed her beautiful brown tresses.

“You should dump his body on Duke’s property to send a message.” Her bronze lips lifted at the ends.

“Great idea. Why are you here?”

She perched on the table beside me. “Because this is where I belong.”

My lips fell on her shoulder briefly. “I’d never force you to do this.”

“I know. That’s what I love about you, Franco. You witnessed my internal struggle and allowed me to decide what I felt was best for me. My father hurt me deeply. He took a precious gift I can never get back. The time has come to take care of them. Whatever the cost may be.” Unshed tears hung in her beautiful eyes.

She blinked them away. A wicked smile curled her lips. A darker version of Kennedy sat beside me. Maybe this was the reason she didn’t want to kill anymore. Did the dark version take over my sweet woman by hardening her heart?

My heart rammed into my ribcage. Fuck! She planned to avenge her mother’s death. Did she plan to kill her half-sisters or torture them? I’d ask her later. She appeared calm. Yet the darkness hovered around her like a storm cloud, ready to release a lightning bolt.

“Clip, please return the brand to the fire. We need it hotter,” she bit out.

Kennedy rose to her feet and sauntered toward Lungy. Her fingertips crawled up his flesh. She halted behind him and leaned into his ear. “What did you say to Derwin?”

Kennedy wouldn’t let it go. I could tell she was used to getting her way. She was good at scaring people into submission.

Hysterical laughter left her. “Because I just knew when I pierced his flesh with the knives, he wouldn’t tell you shit.”

Kennedy lifted her arm, twirling a knife between her fingers. Her eyes met mine. “I never had a man do all he could to protect me like Franco.” She stared into my eyes as she slammed the knife into his shoulder.

Lungy screamed at the top of his lungs. “I asked you a question. Fucking answer me,” she roared.

“He-he told me what you said you’d do to him. I told him I’d feed him his balls if he didn’t talk.”

She stepped away, nodding. “Looks like we’ll feed you your balls.”

“What? No,” he hollered.

“Franco, continue,” Kennedy winked, returning to the empty spot beside me.

Clip placed the brand in my hand. “We’ve killed your men. Now you’ll die for your betrayal.”

I slammed the brand onto his thigh. A searing noise sounded as I marked his skin. Lungy shook uncontrollably. Foaming at the mouth from the pain.

I peered at the name on his skin. DeLuca. A DeLuca has branded you to send a message to those who might consider crossing me.”

Kennedy stepped passed me and stood behind Lungy again. “Here’s your one-way ticket to hell. Bye, bye,” she purred as she plunged the knife into the side of his neck.

Lungy’s body jerked. The sound of his blood gurgling in his throat hit my ears. I watched as blood oozed from his lips.
