I patted Ettore’s shoulder. “You’ll be fine. Put some ice on it later.”

Bonnie’s phone vibrated. She came to a stop at a red light, then glanced at the phone screen.

“What would you like to eat?” She asked.

A smile curled my lips. After a gun fight and an explosion, Franco wanted to make sure I ate dinner. That definitely gave me the warm and fuzzies for my captor.

CHAPTER SIX

FRANCO

After a few drinks, Duke relaxed and laughed at the banter around the room while we played poker. I felt like The Rock after winning a wrestling match. The look on Duke's face told me how he really felt about me. I’d been in the mafia life for a long time. My father was a Capo before me. I took his position after he died. Even though Duke’s disdain for me was written all over his face, it was nice of Kennedy to confirm his feelings toward me.

I hated she dated the asshole. However, having my new enemy’s ex-girlfriend by my side felt invigorating.

During the poker game, I felt his sinister eyes on me. He probably wondered if I was fucking Kennedy.

Not yet, douche bag, but soon. Soon.

Forty-five minutes into the game, Clip whispered in my ear. “Boss, we have a problem. An enemy’s men are approaching the building. Your present is protected.”

It appeared to those around the room I was unaffected by my best friend’s words as I peered at my cards. On the inside, I raked my hands through my hair and growled.

“Thank you, Clip.”

Nothing could happen to Kennedy. I’d burn my club to the ground to protect her. What the hell had gotten into me?

My team was more than capable of keeping her safe, but I wanted to lead her to safety. Keep her close to me. Instantly, I regretted letting her go downstairs to play the slot machines. She could’ve sat at the bar and watched us play cards. At least I would’ve had her close.

With a witty smirk on my lips, I rose.

“Everyone, we have unwanted guests arriving.”

The bartender, Scotty, placed a shotgun on the bar. “Just tell us what you need, sir.”

“Thank you, Scotty. Keep everyone protected in this room.”
