“Duke, I think you forgot that you’re in my house. If you want to die right here, keep acting like you want to kill me.” Franco flashed a wicked grin.

“I’d be more than happy to take you out in front of everyone here. If any motherfucker ever repeated those words outside of this room...”

Franco’s sinister eyes fell over everyone in the room. “You’ll be taken care of.”

Everyone knew that meant they’d die.

Franco hated Duke for almost killing me. He didn’t have to tell Duke I belonged to him now. Franco’s words were like a punch in Duke’s gut.

Duke straightened, slipping his fingers through his silky raven mohawk. His eyes moved between Franco and me, then he shrugged.

“Let’s play poker. I’m ready to win big.”

Duke retracted his tiger claws. That wasn’t a good sign. He had something up his sleeve. Would he try to kill Franco another time?

Yes, he would.

Duke sauntered to the poker table.

I turned, meeting Franco’s gaze. “He’s not ok. When he’s able to strike, he will. If I could walk away, I would. Unfortunately, I can’t.”

A huge smile warmed Franco’s handsome face. “I’ll keep me and my little captive safe.”

I gripped the bridge of my nose with two fingers. “If only Quinn wasn’t in trouble, I wouldn’t be in this situation...” Dropping my hand to my side, I glared at Franco. “...with you.”

“Remember, now isn’t the time to bite my head off. Right now, we have to appear as a team.”

Franco wrapped an arm around my waist and kissed the side of my neck.

I squeezed my legs together to keep from coming in front of Franco’s staff.

Taking a step out of his embrace, I grabbed my drink off the bar.

“Bonnie, I’m ready.”

Franco ran a hand over his mustache and lips. The gesture was sexy.

She nodded and strutted toward the door. Ettore followed behind me. Of course, I had two bodyguards with me tonight. Pretty sure there were more eyes on me from every angle in the club. I bet every one of Franco’s staff members knew I was with him.

Thirty minutes and three drinks later, I yanked the levers on three slot machines. Yes, that was right. I hogged three machines. My mom and aunt said they’d done that so many times in Vegas. This moment felt special. I felt close to them.

People crowded around the tables, smoking and drinking. Onlookers clapped and cheered when a guy won big at the crap tables. Patrons sat at the slot machines on the other side of the room. Bonnie and Ettore told patrons the slot machines on my side of the room were off limits. My bodyguards were serious about my safety since I was their boss’s date for the night. I laughed inside. Despite the Duke fiasco, tonight was fun.

“Bonnie, is everything all right upstairs?” I asked, not taking my eyes off the numbers spinning before my eyes.

“Hasn’t changed since the last time you asked fifteen minutes ago.”

An uncomfortable chuckle left my throat. “My ex doesn’t play well with others.”

“It’s ok. My boss doesn’t either.”

I exhaled. “Ok.”

“You’re up ten thousand. Kennedy, you’ve got the machines humming tonight.”

Smiling, I nodded. “When I first moved here, I doubled my money a few times at the casino.”

Bonnie glanced at Ettore, and her smile withered. “Kennedy, it’s time to move.”
