Dolly swats his arm. “You’re an idiot.”

I take the computer box from Rosie’s arm and set it on the coffee table before pulling her to a stand. “Come to think of it, my leg is hurting.”

She claps a hand against her chest in mock surprise. “Well, in that case, we should definitely go examine it—privately.”

I lean down, nuzzling the back of her neck as we walk down the hallway.

“We need our own place. I wanna make you scream,” I murmur into her ear.

“There’s always the barn,” she muses.

I laugh into her ear, steering her toward my bedroom. “Okay, but we gotta get some kind of bed out there because I’m not interested in getting hay in uncomfortable places anymore. I’m too old for that.”

“You are getting kinda old.” She hops up onto the bed, unbuttoning her pajama top to reveal a lacy red bra underneath.

My mouth waters. “Not too old to give you a good hard spanking, little missy.”

Her eyes spark with anticipation as she licks her lips. “Bring it on, baby.”

I reach for the hem of my T-shirt, peeling it off my frame before slowly approaching her up on the bed.

“By the way, now that we’re alone, I have one more present for you,” she says.

I dip my head between her breasts, kissing each one reverently. “What’s that, baby?”

“I love you,” she says softly, tracing her finger around my earlobe.

My muscles tense as I look up into her soft expression, a wave of emotion rolling over me. A smile curves across my lips as I let out a low chuckle. “Damn, that took you forever. I love you too, angel.”

EPILOGUE

ROSIE

FIFTEEN MONTHS LATER

The pregnancy test stares back at me with two pink lines.

Two lines. There are two lines.

I never thought I’d be the girl who got married with a baby in her belly, but considering my wedding isn’t for another two months, I guess that’s the hand I’ve been dealt.

A slow, trembling exhale escapes my lips as someone knocks on the bathroom door.

“Rosie? Some cattle escaped from the field in the northwest corner. I’m going to see where they got out.” Holden’s voice comes through the door.

I quickly stash the pregnancy test box under some toilet paper in the trash can, hiding the positive one at the back of the towel cabinet.

“Okay, baby,” I call back, staring at myself in the mirror as I wash my hands.

“Do you wanna ride with me?” he asks.

He’ll see it on my face.

“Um, not right now, I guess. I need to start on dinner.”

“Okay, babe.”

His heavy footsteps retreat from the door. I grab my phone, pulling up the photo of my wedding dress. The fitting was last week, and the alterations have already begun.
