Page 74 of Coming Home

We only left to shower and change. Brothers brought us food and coffee.

“About before,” Dani starts, sounding nervous.

Right, our little argument before everything went down.

I wasn’t completely sure what had happened. Even if it did gut me that she didn’t want to live with me, I had thought we were both on the same page and moving in the same direction.

I guess I was wrong.

“We don’t need to discuss it now,” I mutter while looking at Dante who was trying his hardest not to listen by keeping his gaze on his husband.

“We have the time,” she says softly.

“There isn’t much to discuss. You don’t want to move in with me. It’s okay.” It really wasn’t, but I don’t want to lose her. Even if I have to wait.

“It’s not that. I was just scared. We are moving fast, but I knew what the next stop would be. I love you. I do want to move in. I guess I was just scared to lose the closeness with my father. I worried that I wouldn’t see him as much and get to know him, which is stupid because he’s going to move in with my mom now that they are getting married in a couple weeks,” she says softly.

I understand where she’s coming from, but I don’t know how to ease her fears.

“What do you want to do?” I ask her.

She smiles at me. “I already talked to my father, and he helped me work through everything I was scared about. So, what I’m trying to say is that I can’t wait to move in with you.”

I feel a great amount of relief after hearing those words.

“Fuck baby, I can’t wait to take you back to our house,” I rasp.

“We will. Once Zeke wakes up,” she says.

“Fucking rights, I will. Then I can fuck you like I have been dying to all week,” I growl at her.

She pulls me into a kiss and it doesn’t take much to get easily lost in it.

A throat clears. “As much as I love this moment, he’s starting to wake up,” Dante says with amusement in his tone.

We pull away and quickly make it to the side of the bed to see Zeke trying to open his eyes.

Dani gasps when he finally does.

He looks over at Dante, but Dante doesn’t let him talk. “Just wait, we will get you some ice chips and the doctor, and then we can talk about how you didn’t tell anyone I existed. After that, you can tell me how incredibly stupid it was to jump in front of a bullet.”

Zeke gives him a warm look and nod before I head out to grab a doctor or nurse to tell them he’s awake.

Once I do that, I call my parents as promised and they tell me that they are on their way.

I stand out of the way while they check over Zeke’s vitals, and Dante heads out to get ice chips once the doctor says it’s okay for Zeke to have some.

He will be kept for observation for a few days, and then he will be sent home, as long as he has someone to take care of him.

Dani and I both say that Dante and Zeke can stay with us since it will be less crowded than in the clubhouse. Since she’s a nurse, the doctor seems to approve of this plan.

“We need to pick out some furniture today so we all will have somewhere to sleep,” I whisper to Dani.

“We will,” she says with a smile, looking excited at the idea.

It doesn’t take long for everyone to come by and check on Zeke.

“Now, you want to tell us about this husband of yours?” my mom asks, crossing her arms and looking at my brother sternly.
