Page 3 of Coming Home

“It was a wild night. I didn’t know there were so many,” I say with a shrug.

Knuckles shakes his head and walks away. My parents follow me to my house. Well, the house I share with Katy.

They are both silent as they walk into the house. My mother and I watch as my father takes in the place I have called home for awhile now.

I have pictures on the walls of my mother and me, Katy and me, and Katy, Olivia, Hale, and me.

I don’t have any of my best friend Zeke out here since he hates having his picture taken. Plus, he’s a pretty private person, so the only one I have of him is on my phone. The picture is a few year’s old since it has been awhile since we had been able to hang out.

I make a mental note to call him once everything settles down.

I’m thrust out of my thoughts when I hear a sniffle.

I look over and focus on my father. He’s wiping his eyes as he grabs a picture of my mom and me from when I was a little girl. I had a princess themed birthday and we were both dressed up in fancy dresses.

“That was my sixth birthday. It was princess themed,” I tell him as I walk closer, and my mom does the same.

“I wish I could have been there,” he says quietly.

“I didn’t have a lot of friends growing up, but my mom always made it special. I think every year had a theme until I left for nursing school,” I say while walking over to my bookshelf to grab my birthday photo album. We always took one photo of us dressed up.

“After that, she was too busy. One year, we will bring the themes back,” my mom says with a smile.

I hand my dad the album, and he takes a seat on the couch. I sit beside him. My mom tells us she will call in for some Chinese food.

This first night of getting to know one another has given me hope that everything is going to be alright.

We may have missed out on a lot, but there was still time to get to know one another.

Chapter One

Dani

We spent hours on the road before stopping for the night at some motel and heading on the road once more.

Now, we are finally pulling up to the clubhouse where my dad lives.

I’m nervous as fuck, but I do want to get to know him. I had always wondered about him, so it’s crazy to think that I finally get to find out what he’s like, and what I missed out on growing up.

When I get out of the car, I can tell that the clubhouse is packed.

There are multiple vehicles and bikes outside, and the noise coming from there is a dead giveaway that either there is a party, or everyone in the club just happens to be here.

“I’m sorry I kept you from this,” my mother whispers as she grabs my hand.

“Let’s just get it over with,” I mumble as my nerves spike.

When we walk into the room, the music is turned off and the room goes quiet.

“Everyone, this is my daughter and her mother. They are under my protection. If anyone fucks with them, they answer to me,” my dad states.

Some men come up and greet my mom and, by the small smiles they exchange, I can tell that she knows them.

I stand off to the side and look around the room.

I still when I see a face that looks familiar.

He walks up to my dad, and I notice his patch says “sergeant in arms.”
