Page 181 of Lead Us To Temptation

“I think it is a solid idea if she can keep up the Hellfire for a long period of time.”

It was a great idea but I knew my brother. I knew his rage and his temper. He would use every weakness he could find to break her and break the cage she placed on him. And I would not allow that. Plus he was Immortal and she was Mortal. He could very well just wait until her mortality claimed her.

“And if she can’t?” Gabriel asked,

“We’ll make sure she can.”

Gabriel smirked back at me,

“Damn right we will.”

I would do whatever it took to make sure that if it came down to that, then she would be ready. She wouldn’t be defenseless against him.

“It bothers you a little bit doesn’t it?”

“What?”

Gabriel nodded towards the stairs,

“That she wants to fight.”

It didn’t matter to me that she wanted to fight. Catalina was a fighter. Fighting was a song in her blood that she could never deny. She liked to fight and loved it. I knew she could handle herself, knew that she was more than capable of defending herself but yet-

“I know she can take care of herself, but a part of me still has the urge to protect her and keep her safe,”

I wanted Micheal far away from her. I never wanted her to have to see him ever again, yet I knew they would. Our time was ticking down, eventually, they would meet and she would want to stand beside me as we went head to head. Catalina wasn’t going to run from him. It took everything in me not to take her somewhere else when she and Gabriel returned. Catalina had been through enough in her life. Had been through enough pain and torture. I wanted her to be safe, yet I knew if I asked her to stand down, she’d kill me. She was a fighter and asking her to stand down would be like asking a person not to breathe or asking a dog not to bark. Impossible.

“Yet, I know better than to suggest it, If she wants to help take down Micheal then I will be right by her side as we do it, whether it be on a battlefield or in this house, I will not take that from her, I will not ask her to stand down. I will not ask her to be something she is not,”

Whether my instincts liked it or not Catalina was someone who would not be left behind while others rode off into battle. She thrived in that mind space. Fighting was her way to let out her anger, it grounded her and centered her. The battlefield was her canvas, her weapons her brush, and the blood of others would be her paint. The chaos she would create would be her masterpiece and I fucking loved it.

“I will still protect her, still keep her safe but I will also always allow her to defend herself, you need to do the same, Gabriel.”

Gabriel’s eyes hardened as he looked at me briefly before his gaze shot back to his guitar. His fingers lightly stroked the instrument. It had been a while since I had last heard Gabriel play. He was incredibly talented at it and just as fighting soothed Catalina and I, music did the same for him.

“That’s the hard part. I know she can defend herself but,” Gabriel stopped, clutching the guitar a bit tighter as he fiddled with the strings.

“I have seen what she has been through, what she has survived and I just don’t want her hurt anymore. She’s been hurt enough.”

I understood. The mere thought of Catalina being hurt was enough to make me see red. But if we locked her away, kept her from doing something she loved and enjoyed? She would never forgive us.

“Do you trust her?” I asked him.

“Of course I do! Why wouldn’t I-”

“Then trust her to come to us when she needs our help.”

Gabriel went silent for a moment. His focus went back to the instrument as he tangled with the strings and tuning pegs.

“I just want her to be safe and happy.”

“And she will be, I will see to it. I promise.”

Gabriel nodded as he spared a glance back towards the staircase.

She’ll be safe and happy.

No matter what I would make sure it would happen. I would do whatever it took to make sure Catalina got the happy ending she deserved. Even if I had to kill my own flesh and blood to make it so.
