Carla

Gwen, it’s when we don’t want to talk about something that we most need to. Please feel free to call me anytime. You sound like you have a lot to unpack.

I do have a lot to unpack, but it’s mostly just clothes and some hiking gear. Haha.

Carla

Using humor to mask your true feelings isn’t healthy, Gwen.

Ben

Gwen, I suggest taking Carla up on her offer for help. She’s an expert.

Carla, thank you for the offer. I appreciate it, but I’m seriously fine. For real. I promise I’m in touch with my feelings, unlike my mom who refuses to admit she has any.

Dad

Gwen, that wasn’t very nice. Glad you’re home safe and sound though. Get some sleep.

Thanks, Dad. I’m going to have a shower, then drop into bed.

Mom

Call me when you’re not going to be so rude. We should develop a plan for your future employment.

Texting with Allie:

Just got home. Struck out with Sterling. So freaking tired I want to cry.

Allie

You struck out?

Sadly, yes.

Allie

Did you at least get your backpack back?

Yes. Turns out it was at the airport the whole time. Apparently, the guy took longer than expected to unload that part of the plane, so I missed it by about thirty seconds. The guy at the counter thought it was hilarious. Any luck with Skip?

Allie:

Hard no. He’s a total creep. I’ll tell you all about it at work tomorrow.

I was thinking of taking the day off to sleep. I’ve been through the shit.

Allie:

Blerg, Keenan’s counting on you to be there. We’re starting the day with a big meeting to discuss the project’s future. Everyone is dying to find out what happened.

Okay, I’ll be there.

Allie

I’ll bring strong coffee.

You’re the best. Crawling into bed. Good night.
