It didn’t take long before I heard the door unlock. A tall, pretty modelesque woman opened the door. She eyed my frame slowly with a smile, and I couldn’t lie, I did the same to her.

“Hi,” she greeted, leaning against the doorframe. “How can I help you?”

“I’m Whiskee’s husband. Is she here?”

A gasp escaped her as she clutched her chest, and the gesture made me chuckle. Her grin was wide as she nodded.

“So you’re Beethoven?”

“Bay or Toe,” I clarified. Crossing my arms over my chest, I asked her, “What has she said about me?”

She laughed. “All good things… all things considered.” I nodded, pleased with that. “Take care of my best friend,” she demanded softly, pushing herself off the doorframe. “Regardless of who her father and brother are, Whiskee is not about that life. Please, keep her safe.”

“I will. I give you my word.”

That seemed to be good enough for her. She gave me a smaller smile before telling me I could come in. As she walked down the hall, she yelled for Whiskee. I took in the difference in their stature and appearance. Ol’ girl had a dancer’s body—slim, toned, not really shapely at all. Whiskee was short and slim-thick. They both were beautiful, but I loved the delicacy of Whiskee’s features. I bet they had niggas damn near breaking their necks trying to get a good look at them when they were out together.

As Whiskee entered the room, I stood. Even dressed simply in a boxer and crop top set, she looked amazing. That small waist and wide hips combo was going to be the death of me. Every time I saw her, it got harder and harder for me to keep my hands to myself.

“Mahogany almost took you,” she said with a smile.

“She’s beautiful, but no one could take me from you.”

We sat down next to each other on the black sectional. “I know what’s on the line, so I was just teasing.”

I wanted to tell her business wasn’t the reason I said that, but I kept that truth to myself.

“What’s going on with ya phone?” I asked. “You blocked me?”

“Oh, no. Not at all. I haven’t been talking to my brother, and since our phones are on the same plan, he cut it off. He said since I wasn’t talking to him, I can’t talk to anyone.” Her eyes rolled as she sat back in her seat. “I left the phone at the house when I grabbed a few things this morning and forgot to get your number to put it in my new phone.”

“That was some bitch ass shit.” I didn’t care if he was her brother or not. “This how he regulates his emotions on the regular? Like a petty ass child?”

With a sigh, she ran her fingers through her thick, long hair.

“Not all the time. Just when he’s really upset and can’t get his way. Not everyone can get this kind of reaction out of him. Just those he truly cares about.”

I tucked that information in my mind as I nodded and handed her my phone. “Put your number in there. Now that you’re going to be attached to me, you need to communicate with me. I need to know you’re safe at all times.”

I expected her to give me attitude, but she didn’t. Whiskee nodded her agreement and gave me her phone so I could put my number inside. After that, I headed out. I needed to check with the money man and make sure we were back on track now that Carlos had his product. If not, this arranged marriage was going to be a waste.

Three Days Later

Mr. Smith: I apologize for not being present. I know we have a lot to discuss. Business has been crazy right now.

Thank you for apologizing but you don’t have to. I get it.

Mr. Smith: Thank you. Can I pull up tomorrow? We can go over those boundaries and expectations Pops discussed.

Yeagf

The sound of banging against the door caused my finger to slip. Jumping up in bed, I rushed out of the room to see what the hell was going on. By the time I made it to the living room, Mahogany’s door was being kicked in.

At the sight of Carlos and two men I didn’t recognize, I bounced between amusement and anger. The audacity of him to not only disrespect Mahogany’s home but walk in so casually.
