“Sorry, Nerida. You’ll have to find someone else to show you off to the court.”

“Did you hear? Dating a human is now all the rage.” She shrugs like it’s no big deal, but I can’t imagine my sister overcoming her pride. She’s a first-class snob.

“Enough, Nerida,” my mother says, silencing us both. “It’s good to finally meet the creator of the ocean carnival show. I look forward to working with you on future projects.”

“Thank you,” Pasha says. Her cheeks redden, and I think she likes my mum’s compliment.

“I’m glad Maris appointed you on the committee.” She smiles warmly.

“She did?” Pasha asks.

“Of course.”

My mum and girlfriend seem to get on well as they chat business. Having everyone I love in one room feels right.

After a few hours, I swim home with Pasha.

“Goodnight, beautiful,” I say, kissing her lips softly.

“Thank you for today. It meant a lot,” she says, helping herself to another kiss.

“This is just the start. I’d like to take you out for Valentine’s Day.”

She smiles brightly. “To show me off,” she says.

“No. Valentine’s Day is just for us. It’s a day to show you how much I love you.”

“I could get used to this.”

“That’s good to hear because I’m not going anywhere.” I drop a lingering kiss on her lips before finally letting her go.

I mean every word. I’m determined to show her we’re made for each other.
