“Doing what?”
“Kissing me.” I frown, hoping his feelings run deeper.
“You mean more to me than any woman I’ve ever met.”
I smile. “Do you think we would’ve dated if we’d met through different circumstances?”
“From the moment I met you, I knew you were special. Not because you saved me or because you’re a mermaid. It’s because of what’s in here.” He touches my chest over my heart.
My pulse quickens and butterflies jumble in my stomach. “I’m not sure what this feeling is, but I’ve never felt like this either.”
He runs his tongue over my bottom lip. Lust fills me, and I struggle to hide it. My own tongue darts out to wet my dry mouth. It softly meets his, and he pulls me into a toe-curling kiss, our hands exploring each other’s bodies. My tail disappears once more, and he slips his hands over my ass.

I smile against his mouth, happy I have this effect on him. His hand moves further between my legs, and my folds slicken in anticipation. He cups my mound right as a loud crash brings us back to the present. We’re no longer alone, but my back is to our intruder. Whoever it is, I can’t imagine this ending well for us.
