“You do?” I lift a skeptical brow. “Is it another trip to the city? ‘Cause I swear if I have to get all dressed up—”

Aragon presses a finger to my lips, chuckling lightheartedly at the reminder of what happened a few nights ago. When he told me to get dressed, I thought it was for another one of the many ceremonies he attends, and I wore the finest silk dress I found in the wardrobe.

It turned out to be a trip to the city, flying in his dragon arms. It wasn’t as pleasant or romantic as I thought it would be when the weather out there proved to be unfit for silk.

“Wear whatever you feel like,” he titters. “We’re not leaving the island.” Aragon presses a chaste kiss on my lips. “I’ll see you later, angel.”

Standing on the balcony, I await Aragon’s arrival as I usually do when the sun sets. Basking in the gentle warmth of the setting sun, my eyes remain closed with my face turned toward the sky.

When a gust of wind billows through my hair, my lips curl into a smile. It’s Aragon in dragon form, greeting me with a customary flap of his wings as he lands his dragon claws on the balcony rails.

“Hello, my dragon shifter,” I greet cheerfully, taking a step forward to greet him with a kiss on his flat nose.

He snickers before shifting and nimbly climbing off the rail in human form. “Hello, my angel,” he greets back. He holds my hand and twirls me around, whistling his appreciation.

“You are breathtaking, Yazmine,” he praises as he pulls me closer.

I giggle girlishly as I’m folded into his arms. “I’m comfortable,” I jest, gesturing at my attire. Because of what happened the last time, I decided to dress according to what I’m accustomed to—denim jeans and an overgrown sweater. If we are traveling, I’d rather be prepared.

When Aragon pulls away, his eyes twinkle with amazement as he rakes his gaze from head to toe. “You’re back to being the Yazmine I first met,” he smirks. “I like you like this.”

Blushing profusely, I wrap my arms around his neck as he prepares to shift and take flight off the balcony. He doesn’t realize the extent of his acceptance, adding to what I already know to be true.

I love the man… I smile when the shift from his human form to dragon form occurs beneath me, accustomed to how his scales spread out on his body when his wings lift us into the air. When I turn to look up at his face, his slitted eyes meet mine, and he whimpers gently.

A silent stretch of wordless communication in which I know exactly what he’s saying. “I love you.”. Though it’s only through his eyes that I see it, I hear the words in my mind as I place one hand on his heart. The pitter-patter of his heartbeat feels like a wave, allowing me to feel his love for me.

Our flight is short, taking us to the top of the mountain that spans at least half of the island. He gently places me on my feet before shifting back into his human form. He takes my hand in his and lifts it to press a kiss to my knuckles. My heart does a little flip, spreading a smile on my face.

“What are we doing here?” I asked, glancing all around us. The impeccable greenery is highlighted by the moon's soft glow, prompting me to turn my gaze heavenwards. The night sky is covered with a blanket of bright stars, the full moon ripe with light.

It’s a beautiful night, my first time on the top of the mountain that overlooks the pretty features of the scenery below.

“Are we star-gazing?” I ask when he doesn’t reply. When I turn my face to him, I notice the hesitation in his eyes.

“N-no,” he says, Adam’s apple bobbing in his throat with a hesitant gulp. “I mean, yes. But not yet.”

Frowning, I remain quiet when he leads me toward the array of trees up ahead. Perhaps I’d been too ambitious, thinking that he’d be romantic enough to watch the stars. Perhaps my mind is reeling, those silly fantasies wanting to come to fruition even though I know it’s absurd.

“Huh?” I gasped when he stepped up behind me and covered my eyes with his hands. Instinctively clutching his wrists, he chuckles behind me.

“Just a few more steps,” he whispers as he guides me forward.

I take a few more blind steps behind him, when he says, “And… We’re here.”

Aragon removes his hands from my face, opening my vision to the sight before me that takes my breath away. Before us is a little round table with roses and burning candles in the center. I gasp in awe as I take a look around at the trees surrounding the table decorated with soft fairy lights.

Through the canopy of trees, the moonlight’s radiant glow casts a gentle spell on the table. Aragon takes my hand and leads me there, pulling out a chair and coercing me to take a seat.

I’m spellbound by the man as I watch him take a seat and pour champagne into the flutes. He reaches over and lifts the lid off the plate, revealing the prepared dinner.

I would have burst into excitement for the meal if I wasn’t fixated on the appetizing man I have my eyes trained on. When his eyes meet mine, I’m locked into a trance that tugs on my heartstrings and makes me want to pinch myself as if I’m dreaming.

“I should have dressed up for this,” I murmur nervously.

Aragon smirks, eyes twinkling with adoration. “You’re already perfect.”
