Natalie goes perfectly mute. Nic snorts, topping off Cat’s water dish before washing his hands.

“I’m just saying you’re amazing and beautiful, and you made people spill their drinks on their fancy, overpriced designer clothes tonight.” I tug on her hand, bringing her close to kiss her gently. “Does it feel good?”

“What?”

“Being the belle of the ball. Knowing you made hundreds of men want you and all their dates jealous.”

“I don’t want to make anybody jealous.” Natalie’s blush deepens to red.

“Tough.” Nic wipes his hands, throwing the towel on the counter. That look on his face spells trouble for Natalie, trouble of the very best kind, and I cannot fucking wait to see how this plays out.

He got more and more tense throughout the night despite his smiles, small talk, and rich-boy manners. I’m still surprised he cut loose enough to dance with me. In public, no less. But I know Nic well enough now to understand all those eyes, and all that attention on Natalie was not easy for him to bear.

Who knew he’d turn out to be such a possessive sonuvabitch? And who knew I’d find it hot as hell?

“You?” Natalie asks. The meek tone doesn’t match that dress. That dress says, million bucks and worth every penny. I want to frame that dress. I’m sure as hell going to frame that photo of the three of us we took tonight.

Who am I kidding? The dress isn’t going anywhere but the floor. Natalie looks like a million dollars, and it’s got nothing to do with fabric.

“Me.” Nic stalks—there’s no other word for it—toward her. “Do you have any idea how you look tonight?”

Brave, beautiful Natalie squares her shoulders and looks him dead in the eye. “I look fantastic.”

Nic slides a hand into her hair, using it to tilt her head back to look up at him. “Fantastic is exactly the word. You look like a walking fantasy. There’s not a man in that building who didn’t look at you and want you.”

“Probably not many women either,” I chime in. Might have got hung up on that. Sue me. It’s sexy.

“I don’t care about that.” Natalie’s voice comes out strong this time. “There were only three people in that building I dressed for tonight.”

Nic’s scowl matches the one I feel cropping up on my face at the word three. Natalie laughs softly, reaching for my hand and cupping Nic’s cheek with the other.

“It’s me,” she says. “I’m the third. Just us.”

She leans up to kiss him softly. Like magic, the tension just drains away from him. She smiles, turns to me, and gives me the same soft, sweet kiss.

“You’re incredible.”

“And you are so, so good at telling me things that are good for me to hear, Finn.” She tugs at my tie and starts undoing the buttons of my shirt. Nic makes swift work of the zipper on her dress, watching me watch him.

“You are,” he agrees. “Both of us. You tell us what we need to hear, even if we don’t want to hear it.”

“You mean I annoy you.” It’s true. Hell, it’s one of my favorite things to do to Nic.

Well. Maybe not a favorite anymore. I can think of a few things I’d rather do now, for instance.

He must have some idea what I’m thinking because his eyebrows slowly start to rise.

“Bedroom,” he says abruptly. Without warning, he sweeps an arm under Natalie’s knees and hoists her in the air, carrying her back down the hall.

“You’re going to hurt yourself! Nic, put me down!”

I’m grinning like a fool, trailing behind them, pulling off my dress shirt, and kicking off my shoes as we go.

Nic sets her down at the edge of the bed.

“You’re being dramatic,” accuses Natalie.

“You’re the most important thing in the world to me.” He looks at me, making sure I know he’s talking to us both. His voice turns rough. “I want to show you.”
