“I get that. You also need to know that you are welcome to stay here for a long as you want. All of you. I’m not kicking you out, no matter what happens.” He frowned. “I’d also never hit you, understand? My life is dedicated to protecting people, especially women. Got me?”

“Um. Yes.” It should have reassured her, but she’d met too many dirty cops to simply believe what he was saying. And as Opal stepped into the room, she gave her a knowing look.

They’d both met their share of shitty humans pretending that they were upstanding and good.

But Ryleigh gave Linc a soft look, buying every word.

“Sorry, he was pooh-stinky, weren’t you, little boy?” Opal said, walking over to show Ryleigh her baby. “Don’t know how he can produce such a stink when he only has milk.”

Ryleigh sighed. “I wish I could hold him, but I don’t want to pass any of my germs on. I’m so glad he’s all right.”

“Of course he is,” Lilac told her with a smile. “We’ve got him.”

“I know you do.” Ryleigh slumped back, looking exhausted.

“You need to go back to bed,” Linc told her.

“I will,” Ryleigh said with a frown. “In here.”

“No. Not in here.” Linc shook his head.

Ryleigh glared up at him. “I’m not going back with you when you’re mean to my friends.”

“Ryleigh, I apologized.”

Ryleigh huffed, then coughed.

She was doing so much better. It seemed Linc was good at taking care of her. Better than they would’ve managed. Plus, it meant there was less chance of Kye catching anything from her.

“Still don’t forgive you,” Ryleigh told him.

Linc grimaced. She kind of felt sorry for him. She also hoped he didn’t get mad and kick them out. That he’d meant what he’d said.

“What if I make him pay?” Tanner said.

She gave Tanner a surprised look. “What are you going to do?”

Tanner just winked at her.

Ryleigh stared at Tanner as Opal watched on gleefully.

“I don’t know,” Ryleigh said hesitantly.

Linc sighed. “I need to talk to Tanner, then I’ll be back to take you to bed, Ryleigh.”

“Ooh, lucky girl. I love it when a man says he’s going to take me to bed. It’s been so long.”

They all gaped at Opal.

“What?” she asked. “Just because you all are in denial about your sexual needs doesn’t mean I am.”

“Don’t say sexual needs in front of the baby,” Linc ordered.

“Don’t boss her around,” Ryleigh said. “Opal, don’t say sex in front of Kye.”

Opal just shrugged. “I’m sure he’s going to hear worse. Does anyone know if they have scholarships or something for the kink club in town?”

“Scholarships?” Linc stared at her in bewilderment.
