“Did she just try and say Swoolia?”

Vic met her gaze and shrugged. “She’s a smart baby, she can just see how swoony you are, clearly.” Vic licked her lips and Julia felt turned on again.

“Here, my Tiny friend.” Vic used Hyzenthlay’s chubby little hand to pull the wrapping paper open revealing the stuffed rabbit with Hyzenthlay’s name embroidered in its paw.

A tear formed in the corner of Vic’s eye as she looked at the stuffed rabbit. “Oh, god, Julia, this is such a beautiful gift. It is such beautiful quality. And, it’s a rabbit. Look, baby, look how perfect it is.” She handed the rabbit to Hyzenthlay who immediately began to put its long furry ear in her mouth.

Vic laughed. “Nobody ever takes me seriously about where her name came from. I loved that rabbit. I just knew I had to name her after that rabbit. Thank you for getting her a rabbit. Did you watch Watership Down yet?”

Julia smiled. “No, I didn’t watch it yet, sorry.”

“It’s a book too, but the movie is what matters to me. We could watch it together sometime?” Vic looked at her like a hopeful child, and Julia nodded.

“Of course, I would love to. Has Hyzenthlay seen it?”

“Actually no, not yet. I know it’s animated, but it is actually pretty scary and it always makes me cry. I mean, I think Hyzenthlay will be alright though. I think she is too young to understand it. Are you brave with films?”

“I mean, I’m not quite sure what I am letting myself in for, but I am pretty brave with films, I think.”

“Perfect,” Vic smiled. “You can hold my hand then.”

She winked at Julia and Julia felt herself melting.

God, I want this woman.

The party progressed into the evening. The families had gone home and the royal triplets and Hyzenthlay had been taken to bed by the nannies. Hyzenthlay had been clinging onto her toy rabbit, and Julia felt proud of her gift choice. Julia spent her time talking to all the people she should be talking to and remaining very professional. She kept seeing Vic across the room. Vic looking stunning, all long legs and short skirts. She knew she felt something for Vic and Vic had made her intentions quite clear earlier. But, what could it possibly be? A one nighter? A stupid fling? Julia had her career to focus on. The Queen and her family were Julia’s priority, not a fling with the Queen’s wild friend. What if it all went badly? Would Julia lose her job? Even if she didn’t, how awkward would it be to have to be around Vic so often.

I can’t stop thinking about kissing her.

It was dark outside now and most of the remaining people were inside. It was hours since Julia had been chatting with Vic. Julia sat at a table near the big glass doors that were closed now, relaxing for a minute alone. She had kicked her heels off and her stockinged feet were stretching out. It got exhausting, sometimes. Putting on her most sociable, most well put together, absolutely best version of self all the time. Talking to all the people she knew she should talk to and make feel welcome. She had well enough of orange juice and had ordered a glass of wine. She didn’t drink much or often, but she did enjoy the occasional glass of wine. She ran her fingers down the stem of the wine glass and raised it to her mouth and took a sip. She jumped as she felt someone suddenly at her neck behind her, a face close to her ear. The scent was unmistakably her.

“Meet me outside,” was all she said and then Julia watched as Vic walked confidently outside into the beautiful gardens that were now empty.

Julia took a second, took another sip of her wine, but it was as though her body couldn’t wait any longer and before she knew it, her legs were taking her outside. She felt the cool damp grass under her stockinged feet; she hadn’t bothered putting her shoes on.

Normally she would have done. Julia was exactly the kind of person who would have always put her heels back on.

She made it out of the doors and her eyes adjusted to the darkness and the moonlight. She could see Vic ahead of her on the path through the gardens and she followed her. Vic had stopped near the tall stone wall that divided off the orchard and had turned around and leant with her back against the stone wall.

The moonlight fell over her body and she looked just as striking in the dark. Her hair was tied up now in a messy bun.

What am I doing?

It was almost as though Julia had known what would happen when she approached Vic. She had wanted it so much. She knew she shouldn’t, yet at the same time, she knew she couldn’t resist.

Julia still jumped in surprise as Vic grabbed her and spun around so that it was Julia’s back against the cold stone wall suddenly.

Vic didn’t speak, she just pinned Julia against the wall with her hands grasping each of Julia’s wrists up next to her head. Julia was shorter than her without the heels. She felt the delicious weight of Vic’s body pressing into her and pinning her against the wall.

Vic’s face was only inches from her own and she looked at her questioningly as though she was asking without words.

Julia felt a bolt of electricity running through her body. Yes was the only possible answer.

Yes. Yes. Yes.

Take me, please.

She nodded her head.
