“Is everything okay?” I asked, concerned.

“Yeah. Just want to be alone for a little bit.”

I understood after what happened, she wanted space. As much as I wanted to be with her and comfort her, she needed to be alone, and I couldn’t blame her. She was reeling from what we did and probably questioning everything about herself right now.

My body was still kicked in high gear as the endorphins coursed through me as I tried to regulate it. “I’ll meet you in the bedroom, then.” I told her.

She closed the door, then I heard the click of the lock and wondered why she felt the need to do that. Wouldn’t she trust me enough not to cross a boundary she put in place?

I headed down to the kitchen, took a wooden tray off the counter, then placed some food on it. Brielle will definitely need the fuel.

Once I was back upstairs, I knocked on the door. “Everything okay?”

“I’ll be out in a minute,” she hollered.

After a couple of minutes, she came into the bedroom, where I had the food tray and drinks ready. She smiled.

“Thought you needed the fuel.” I stood nervously as she walked toward me. I cupped her face with my hands and kissed her lips, hoping to make everything better.

“You still want me after what we did?” She asked, looking up at me.

“What? Are you kidding me?” I chuckled. “I don’t think anything different. You said it was a one-time thing, and that is fine. Come on. Come and eat.”

Brielle changed into a pair of sweats, then we sat on the bed with the tray of food. I picked a cube of cheese to eat and looked at Brielle as she sat by me.

“You guys do that often?” she asked.

“Honest answer?”

She slowed blinked. “Always.”

“Today was the second time. Last time was when he had a girlfriend. That was a while back. Do you regret doing it?”

Brielle grabbed a strawberry and plopped it into her mouth. “I don’t regret it, but like I said, it was a one-time thing.”

She smiled.

“What are you smiling about?” I asked.

“I was asked one time to participate in a threesome, but I turned the couple down.”

“Oh, interesting.” I cocked a grin.

“It’s a couple I was working for at the time. I didn’t mix business with pleasure, not until I met you.”

“Well, I’m glad the first time was with me. You know it’s nothing to be ashamed of, right?”

She nodded. “I know.” She ate a few crackers and said, “I’m tired. We should get some sleep.”

“We should. We are heading back tomorrow morning.”

Chapter Sixteen

BRIELLE

I was just stepping out of the elevator when I locked eyes with Jameson. He walked fast to catch up to me. “Hey. You left early this morning.”

“I met a friend for coffee, then came here.” A talk with Kali was exactly what I needed this morning, though I left out details of the Lake Tahoe trip.
