“Damn.”

“Days prior to that, we kissed, and I put a stop to it before it could go further. I told him we couldn’t do that. He was pissed, and I was pissed he put me in that situation. But eventually we came together and talked about it. Then it happened.”

“Well, I don’t see the harm in it as long as you keep things professional during work.”

“That’s exactly what I told him. And he is making some improvements when it comes to work, he has stepped up some.”

“I am happy to hear that.”

We got out of the hot tub and were ready for the final service for our mani/pedi’s.

“How’s wedding planning going?” I asked her.

“So far, we picked out the venue, did a cake testing, and finally made a decision on that. I’m going for a dress fitting in a few weeks. Want to come along?”

“Of course. I’m here if you need help with anything.”

“Thanks.”

“Speaking of dresses, I need to get a dress for a gala this weekend. Want to help me?”

“Duh.”

We laughed.

Chapter Eleven

JAMESON

Brielle looked stunning as she left for the charity event tonight. Now, I was kicking myself for acting like a jerk and being stubborn because I was just sitting at home like it was any other day. And if I decided to step up, I’d have to attend these things.

All I could think about was Brielle at the gala, having a good time talking to everyone. The thought of her dancing with someone made my blood boil. There was only one thing I could do.

I showered, changed into a tuxedo, then got in my car and headed straight there.

Nerves swirled in my stomach, and for some reason, I felt like I might throw up, upon arriving, I immediately grabbed a drink, then another.

Walking around, I looked for Brielle, instead, a familiar brunette came up to me. “Jameson, you made it,” Adrienne said.

“Hey. Noce to see you.” I moved along, not giving her another look. We had a three-night fling about two years ago, but it meant nothing to me. But anytime she sees me, she tries to get together. I have absolutely no interest in any other woman than the one I’m looking for.

I don’t know where she could be. Mom stops me. “You made it. I knew you would change your mind.”

“Hey, mom. Have you seen Brielle?”

“Oh, last I saw, she was on the balcony.”

“Thanks.”

There were three balconies to check, but I saw her across the way to the other one. I didn’t bother getting there the normal way of walking around, no, I hooked my leg over the wrought iron and smoothly got over. I was just in time to shove Tommy away from Brielle, who he had pinned against the balcony. Leaning down, I yanked Tommy up by his collar and shoved him inside the venue.

Brielle’s face was showing fear, and I absolutely hated that. “Are you okay?”

She looked down at her feet. “I’m okay.” I tucked some hair behind her ear. “Keep that fucker away from me.”

I saw what he was doing to her, and it wasn’t good. But I didn’t hear anything he was saying, so I asked her, “What was he saying?”

“He is sick. Said he knew we were screwing, which I know he was only assuming because how would he really know. He said, “Oh I bet you give that pussy up every night to Jameson”. He said he wanted to take everything you had.”
