I placed a bin of sugar onto the counter with a dull thud and shook my head. “The exact opposite.”

“That’s a good thing. Isn’t it?” She eyed the trays of eggs I pulled out of the fridge. “How much baking do you plan on doing?”

“You said the cinnamon rolls sold well. You want more? I’ll make more.”

“Honey, you’re sounding a little crazy.”

I stopped midway to the utensil shelf. “How so?”

“You pulled out enough eggs for ten batches. I can’t sell that many.”

“Oh.” I pivoted and grabbed a tray. “I’ll put some back.”

She folded her arms and watched as I loaded the pared down ingredients into her industrial stand mixer.

“Talk or I’m charging you for every egg, every ounce of flour, every grain of sugar—”

I put my hand up to silence her. “I get it. I get it.”

“Then talk.”

“The date with Mac was amazing—”

“You’ve already said that.”

I ignored her, focusing on weighing the sugar before I poured it in. “He took me to a karaoke bar—which was terrifying—but he got us a private room—”

Her eyes widened, and I shot her a dirty look.

“It wasn’t like that. He saw how nervous I was and opted for something more intimate—but not like that.”

“And why not? You’re young. Single. You need a good dick to get your mind off Bryce—”

“It wasn’t Bryce stopping me.”

“Bash.” Her tone was so sure. So self-righteous. So annoying.

“Yes,” I ground out.

She laughed and handed me an egg at a time. “What happened?”

“Bash was there when Mac picked me up.”

“Oh, no.”

“Oh, yes.”

“How’d that go?”

My blood raged as I cracked eggs. “Embarrassing. Ridiculous. Absolutely not something I ever want to go through again.”

“Spill. Now.”

“You want to know? I opened the door. Bash saw it was Mac, and he turned feral. Like leaning against the doorframe.” I mimicked his motions against the wall. Roxie fanned herself and I rolled my eyes. “He growled.”

“He growled?”

“Yes. And made stupid threats or something.” I couldn’t remember exactly what he said because of the blood that had thundered through my ears as he embarrassed me and himself.
