“You did good work with your testimony.”

I slide into the seat next to him and lean back. “I wish we were able to get more of his investors’ money back.”

“We’re lucky to have gotten what we did, and his estate can now go into probate. By selling off all his assets, that should be another percentage.” Jason crosses his arms over his vintage T-shirt. Over the last few months, he’s grown a beard and started working out. He no longer looks like the nerdy gamer who squats in his mom’s basement.

“Yeah, I guess. We’ve been lucky. I realize most Ponzi scheme investors lose everything, so I shouldn’t be upset, but it still bugs the hell out of me.”

“Are you feeling okay?”

“I’m great.” I lay my hand over my swollen belly and smile. “Three weeks to go.”

“Will Cade be back in time?”

“He should be.” He’d better fucking be. I’m not having this baby on my own. The baby kicks my stomach. Damn you, little guy. I rub over the spot and try to calm my nerves. Baby boy Nicholas is as much of a control freak as his daddy. If I even think about getting upset, he beats my insides.

Cade has been out on assignment four times since Randall’s case a year ago. This time, he went with Truman to Malta, and I haven’t heard from him for a couple of days. Not that I’m worried. They served as security for a shipwreck diving team and are flying back to the United States this week.

“Excellent.” He beams and swivels back around to his computer.

We work in silence for over an hour. When the door pops, I glance up and wrinkle my nose. Standing on the threshold is my sinfully delicious husband wearing a black T-shirt, camouflaged cargo pants, and combat boots. Lord, have mercy. He’s sexy.

“Hey, Jason.”

“Cade, good to see you.” Jason waves and returns to his work.

Cade cocks his head and motions with his index finger for me to come to him. Who cares if we’re at work? I jump out of my chair and run to him. “Hello, gorgeous. Did you miss me?”

“That’s a stupid question.” I wrap my arms around his neck. “Of course, I missed you. When did you get back?”

“We got into the airport an hour ago.”

“Everything okay?” I rub the lines around his eyes. He looks tired but otherwise unscathed.

“Perfect.”

“Well, guys. I’m going to head to the cafeteria for a few minutes.” Jason jumps up and moves to the exit. “Don’t set off any fire alarms.”

“Wouldn’t dream of it.” Cade winks and hauls me closer to his solid body, which is hard to do with my nine-month pregnant belly.

The door shuts behind Jason, and Cade’s mouth lands on mine. God, I’ve missed him. His tongue parts my lips and dances against mine, causing my pussy to swell and my nipples to ache. Hell, they hurt all the time. I can’t attribute that to him this time.

He pulls back. “I love you, babe.”

“I love you, too.”

“I’m sorry I didn’t call last night, but the second we had everything squared away, we rushed to the airport to get back home.”

“It’s fine.” I trace his jaw with my finger. The five o’clock shadow pricks my fingertip. “Randall’s sentencing was yesterday. He received 60 years.”

“Good.” Cade’s jaw tightens. “The asshole deserves it.” His fingers dig into the flesh of my neck. “I should have killed him.”

“No, you shouldn’t have.”

“Let me have my fantasy.” He leans down and flicks his tongue along with the hollow of my neck and jaw.

“You’re better served with different, more exciting fantasies.”

“Yes, I am.” His voice rumbles against my flesh, making my clit twitch. “How about we go home and indulge in one of those fantasies before my little man takes away my play toy.” He rubs my belly and is rewarded with a kick in the palm.
