He takes my hands, pulling me closer. “Yes. I married Tamara because she was right on paper. You're right… in here,” he says, touching his chest. “In a way no one ever has been before.”

I swallow. “Grey, if you’re saying that because you don’t want me to leave?—”

“I don't give a shit. If you need space and want to leave, to gather your thoughts, I’ll fly you home. But the only caveat is that you need to promise to let me take you out after the wedding.”

“You would do that?” He’d be all alone during the wedding celebration, but he still wants to go out with me next week? After I can no longer serve him? Why would he do that unless he wanted to get to know me? Unless he truly cared about me?

He gives my hands a gentle squeeze. “I don’t want you to feel overwhelmed. I don’t want you to think I’m using you. I want you. And I know I have a long way ahead of me, but if you give me time, you’ll feel the same.”

I laugh. Time? My heart pounds in my chest, and the floodgates open between my thighs. Certainty claims my soul. I know I can trust him. He told me before… he takes care of his own.

“What’s wrong?” he asks, his gaze searching mine.

I bite my lower lip. “I don’t need time. I’ve fallen for you too.”

His face lights up, and he wraps his arms around me. “Really?”

I look up, not wanting to lose eye contact, loving the hardness of his chest against mine, his arms snug around me. “Yes.”

“I know I’m older. And I know you may want to wait before you settle down.”

“I’m not afraid of settling down if it’s with the right person.” I’ve already tried with the wrong person, and damn it, I know the difference. “I want marriage and children. And I love that I can tell you without you running the other way.”

“Oh, Sylvie…”

He lowers his head and captures my lips in a kiss that sends pulsing flashes of heat to my erogenous zones. A kiss that encompasses all the crazy emotions taking over me. A kiss that’s only the beginning.

“Shouldn’t we go back to dinner?” I ask, aware that I won’t have a nugget of common sense in a moment or two.

“Not yet,” he says in a low voice, lifting me off the floor. “I need to show you a thing or two.” He puts me on the bed, covering me with his hot body, and I’m sinfully boxed in.

“Are you going to take care of me?” I ask playfully when he kisses my nose.

“With every breath I have,” he says, pressing his mouth to mine. He kisses me, our bodies plastered together, our tongues mingling, our labored breaths swirling into one.

Yes, I wholeheartedly believe Grey will take care of me… starting now.

EPILOGUE

Three weeks later…

Sylvie

“Let me see the ring,” Kendall says the moment I open my office door to her. “I need to see it to believe it.”

It’s a bright Monday morning, and I haven’t told anyone at the daycare center about my recent engagement. Though I’m sure a few people have noticed my ring.

I stretch out my hand to her, the gigantic rock on my finger sparkling. I’d been engaged for a full twenty-four hours when Grey asked me to marry him.

She whistles. “Wow.”

This is the first chance I’ve had to meet Kendall in person and show it to her.

A wave of female pride goes through me. I’m fully aware of the impressive size of the rock, but the most important thing is the idea of sharing a lifetime with Grey. Saying yes was the easiest answer.

Kendall sits in one of the chairs, and I follow suit. “When are you planning on getting married?”

I sigh. If it were up to me, we would go to Vegas and marry there. But we’re using the wedding as a great way for our families to meet and mingle. Leslie has already emailed me and offered some tips. Even his mother called, and we’re setting up a lunch for her to meet my mom—who was surprised but happy for me. “In two or three months. We don’t want to wait too long.”
