While Rhett may be like a sun-dappled forest on a summer evening right now, last night he was as powerful and overwhelming as that winter lake. The moment I allowed him to take control, I felt just as helpless as I had in the surf, flung about by the passions of an unstoppable force.

Only unlike in the lake, I loved every second of it. After a thousand decisions made every day in the office, it was the most freeing feeling in the world to let go, to allow Rhett to have me exactly as he pleased.

And my lord does this man know what he wants.

After our exhilarating first round in the sauna, Rhett wrapped me in a towel and carried me back up to our room like a Viking war chief, damn anyone who saw us. Then we went at it again, this time in the biggest, softest bed I’ve ever even laid in, let alone had sex on.

Afterward we had a brief respite where Rhett called in room service and we sat around laughing, reminiscing about our adventures since leaving New York and eating chocolate-covered everything while sipping from bottle of top-shelf champagne.

And once the laughs died to dry chuckles and finally to thoughtful silence? Well then I caught that look in his eye once again and it was only a matter of moments before we were back in bed.

It was a wonderful evening. And I didn’t allow myself to think about work once.

Sadly, as Saturday dawns bringing with it the storm we’d left behind in New York, it also brings the reality of our situation. It’s only a matter of time before Sloane calls with the news of what to tell Marie tonight. I already know what the answer will be. What I don’t know is how to break the news to Rhett.

I can’t figure this out alone. It’s time to confer with an expert on both relationships and me.

Rhett doesn’t wake as I untangle myself from his arms. I grab my phone and tiptoe to the furthest wing of the suite. Then I dial Anna.

She answers on the first ring. “Hey girl, hey!” she says in a sing-song. “What are you doing up so early on a Saturday?”

“I should ask you the same question,” I say, smiling at the sound of her comforting voice.

“We were supposed to go on this Rainbow Mountain tour,” she says, “and it’s supposed to leave at like four in the goddamn morning, but then the company canceled last minute — something about a tourist trying to take an inappropriate picture with a llama and getting mauled. So now the whole place is shut down.”

“That sounds… not true,” I say. “Do llamas maul people?”

“Oh who knows,” she says. “Whatever the reason, it’s nice to sit in bed and scroll Instagram. Turns out there’s a ton to do around here so it hasn’t been as relaxing as I thought it’d be.”

Her voice gets a little distant. “No, Cole. I’m having a great time! But come on, it’s nice to be cuddling in bed rather than hiking six thousand feet into the air surrounded by every tourist in the southern hemisphere, right?”

Coming back to the phone, she stage-whispers, “He’s so active. It’s actually a little annoying.”

I laugh as I hear Cole’s mock outrage in the background. “Sounds like the trip is going great.”

“It’s fantastic,” she says. “Though I am looking forward to getting back to the city. But enough about us, what the hell is happening there? Last I heard Rhett was refusing to help and you hated him. Have you hooked up yet?”

I just sigh. “It’s been a pretty wild past couple days.”

“Soooo…” she starts for me, the glee evident in her voice.

“…you told me so,” I finish for her.

Anna’s whoop is so loud that I hear Cole give a bark of surprise next to her.

“I TOLD YOU SO! In your face!” she gloats.

“Man, I’m almost regretting calling,” I tease. “I can’t give you this much satisfaction.”

“Enough about my satisfaction,” she says. “What about yours?”

“Uh…” I start.

Anna reads me immediately. “Cole, honey?” she says. “Why don’t you get in the shower and when I’m done with Liz we’ll go to that café with the good toast.”

After ten seconds or so, she comes back on the line. “Okay bitch. Spill. Does he know you’re into him yet?”

“Well considering he made me come four times last night, I’d better hope so,” I say, bracing myself with a grin for Anna’s reaction.
