“They have those pieces of fried dough with powdered sugar you like.”

“Zeppoles?”

“I think that’s what they’re called. With raspberry or chocolate sauce?”

“Those are Zeppoles. I couldn’t eat another bite, but maybe next time.”

“Do you want an order to go?”

“No, they’re best when eaten very hot. You know Carlucci’s sometimes needs lunch catered. Do you know if they offer catering here?”

“I’m pretty sure they do. I believe Knight Security uses them.”

“We’ll have to come back again. It’s a little too far for takeout.”

“They have a restaurant practically on Atlantic Beach. Different atmosphere; they have outdoor seating, but the pizzas are the same. So, which beach do you like to go to? Atlantic, Jax or Ponte Vedra?”

“You pick. Surprise me!”

Val gives me a wide smile. She seems to have gotten over whatever was bothering her a few weeks ago. I’m glad. I like seeing Val happy and content.

I can’t wait to see Val in a swimsuit, all slick with suntan lotion. I’ll be sure to help her apply it. I grin just thinking about it.

Chase finds a parking space at Neptune Beach and pulls into it. Then we both hop out and start unloading the truck.

“I can’t believe we brought all this,” I see Chase pulling stuff out of the truck bed.

“The cooler is on wheels, so it’s not that big a deal. I like having something cold to drink.”

“Me too. I can carry the beach umbrella.”

I watch Chase as he loads the beach chairs on top of the giant cooler. I grab my beach bag and the umbrella and follow him.

“I like this beach the best. It isn’t as crowded as Jax’s beach.”

I’m glad I’m walking behind Chase so I can watch all his glorious muscles flex as he pulls the cooler with him over the sand. He’s wearing a pair of long board shorts. His chiseled chest is bare, and I’m glad I’m wearing a big floppy hat and dark sunglasses so I can stare at my husband’s body as much as I want.

My goodness, that man is fine. As I trudge along behind him, I glance around at the beach. There aren’t that many people at this time of the morning. Chase wanted to get here early so we could get a parking spot.

I have to agree we timed it perfectly. Not too early and not too late. And we got a prime parking spot.

Chase picks out a location, and we stop and position the cooler. Then, he takes the large beach umbrella and secures it into the sand.

I get both of the loungers and set them up. Then I spread a towel over them.

I’m wearing a beach cover-up. I’m a little nervous as I impulsively bought a new swimsuit that is more daring than I normally wear. But it’s the only swimsuit I bought. I knew Chase would like it, but I forgot I’d be wearing it on a public beach.

I can’t believe I’m feeling shy about taking off my cover-up, but I don’t normally flaunt my curves.

Chase turns around with a bottle of suntan lotion in his hands. He has that lopsided grin on his face.

“Ready for some suntan lotion?”

“Sure,” I take off my floppy hat but leave my sunglasses in place. Then I take off my beach cover-up.
