She looks at me for a moment before she nods. “If you promise to listen to my podcast, tell me if it sounds better than the last one.”

“Deal.” I get up and down my coffee. I kiss her head, then tilt her face up and kiss her lips softly. “See you later.”

“See you later,” she calls.

I get into the Range Rover and drive over to the gym. I go upstairs with my backpack and protein shake and walk in on Arseny stretching with Wynter.

“Where’s Clyde?”

“Following a lead for Kervyn.” Wynter points to a bench. “Get warmed up and ready.”

I nod and take a deep swig of my protein shake before I start stretching.

Gym goes by quickly, and we don’t really talk about much except the attack. It’s only speculation. Armenians want something, but they’re not communicating what. So far, it’s mostly been ransoms, so maybe it’s just the money they’re after. Then why shoot up the casino?

I shower after gym and drive to the casino, where Monty is outside waiting for me. “Any news?”

“On what, boss?” he asks.

“On anything,” I ask. “The attack? Either of them. On our enemies. Just give me something to report back to Kervyn.”

I lead him to my office. Another guard, Ivan, joins him, and they both stand inside my office at the door.

“Nothing,” Monty admits.

I nod and sigh. “It is what it is.” I turn my laptop on and open Spotify. I open Hannah’s podcast, and as promised, I put it on.

“I want you guys to listen to this and give me your opinions of whether it’s good or not,” I say.

“Isn’t it your wife?” Monty asked.

“Yup, she’s got some upgraded software and equipment.” I grin. “Courtesy of her loving husband.”

We listen to the podcast. It’s an hour and a half long, and we comment throughout it. It’s great. She’s done an amazing job, and I am so proud of her. The guards enjoyed it.

Around lunchtime, we get news that the gallery where Asher’s artwork is sold has been attacked. Luckily, there was no one there, so no one was hurt.

Armenians.

Again.

I have to tell Hannah. Keeping her in the loop will help keep her safe.

I look for her as soon as I’m home. She’s sitting on my bed reading. “Why hello.”

I crawl onto the bed and lie next to her. “Some light reading.”

“This guy tried to flush body parts down the toilet,” she grins at me. “This is gross.”

“It sounds like it. Hannah, listen. There was another attack today. No one got hurt. In fact, no one was there. It was just a building that was hit. But I’m telling you so you understand how important it is that you stick with your guards so that you’re safe.”

She looks at me, and I can see the fear on her face. I kiss her shoulder. “You don’t have to be that scared. Just keep vigilant.”

“What would I do if someone attacked me? I’m useless.”

“That’s why I have two guards for you. Jonah has sworn to protect you for me, and I’ve known him since he was a child. You’re in the best hands next to mine.” I kiss her shoulder again. “Why don’t we go have dinner? Then maybe we can watch a movie together.”

“Can we watch a serial killer documentary?” she asks as she sets her book down.
