Joq walked in with his laptop. Finn glanced at it, a hint of confusion on his face, words coming out of him like he’d been rehearsing them since Joq left him down here.

“George is on his way.”

“You texted him?” Joq asked.

Finn nodded, eyes on the laptop as Joq put it on the coffee table and sat on the couch next to him. Finn shuffled over, creating more space between them.

“He’s on his way home now,” Finn said.

Joq wasn’t sure if that was true—he wasn’t due to finish until eight, and that’s if they were on time; they usually weren’t. Didn’t matter—this would take around five minutes.

“Cool,” Joq said and opened the laptop. “Check this out.”

The video was already open, paused at the moment Finn’s hand was turning his shower off. Joq hit play at the same time as Finn sucked in a breath.

“What’s this?” fell faintly from his lips as his eyes widened.

Joq watched the video, but his attention was all on Finn next to him. Finn had gone completely still, a statue, even his breathing seemed to have stopped as he watched himself on screen slipping behind George, kissing his nape, on George turning him, on Finn’s face before they kissed—turned on, vulnerable, in love—

“What is this?” Finn asked again.

“I think you know what this is,” Joq said.

“Turn it off,” Finn said on a desperate breath.

Joq looked at him. He’d expected shock, anger, even defiance. He hadn’t expected pure terror. Joq didn’t turn it off.

“What do you think will happen if this gets out?” Joq asked.

Finn sucked in a sharp breath. He looked at Joq and Joq saw him beginning to get it. Why Joq was showing him. What he wanted.

“You wouldn’t do that to George,” Finn said. He sounded sure, but one push and his certainty would crumble.

Joq closed the laptop. “Not to George, no.”

Finn sighed, relieved.

“You would,” Joq went on.

Finn looked confused.

“You think he’d stay with you after that got out? After you got him outed with something like that? Oh, he would at the start, but how do you think all that drama would work in your so called relationship? I know George, he’s insanely private and this,” Joq waved his hand at the laptop, “being out there? This is more than some rumour on a gay blog. He’d never get over it. It’d always be there. It’d destroy you from the start.”

Finn had been breathing quietly as Joq spoke, his head shaking.

“But you wouldn’t do that,” he said again. “You wouldn’t leak that.”

“Tell you what, Finn,” Joq leaned closer. Finn stilled. “I promise I’ll destroy it if you leave my boyfriend alone. No more fucking, no more swimming and dates and whatever the fuck else you two are doing. And not a fucking word about this, you hear me?”

Finn was already nodding. Joq thought he’d put up more of a fight.

Joq bracketed his hand behind Finn’s head on the couch and leaned in close; he could see Finn’s pulse rabbiting in his throat, feel the fear coming off him.

“I thought you’d fight for him more than that,” he whispered against Finn’s ear.

“I’d never let anyone hurt him,” Finn said, his voice shaking.

Joq laughed, low and mean; he tilted his head down so his breath ghosted over Finn’s cheek.
