Kelvin did not forgive us until the next summer vacation because the girl had told him she never liked him in that way and was in a new relationship.

Laughter filled the room as we recalled these memories. The waiter signals that our order is ready and sets it before us.

We speak about some staff at Selware and try to mimic some of them with impressionable characters.

Damien’s impression of Jenny and Dominic makes me laugh the most till my stomach hurts.

I try to mimic Amanda, the lady heading the marketing department, but I fail woefully.

Nights like these need to be framed and never end. My heart feels so light like I was not dealing with grief and going through one of the roughest patches and times in my whole life.

Having the man I love sitting right before me with so much adoration in his eyes makes me so happy.

The aroma of our food is pleasant. Our smiles are wide. Our hearts are insistently groaning for each other’s love and affection.

Chapter Twelve

Damien

I’ve lived a monotonous life for years now. Although I have been on different dates and in relationships with some ladies, none made me feel like she did.

Being a CEO of a global corporation had a price attached to it. There was no luxury of time to engage in anything that was not moving my company forward.

Safe to say I am a workaholic. An ardent one, at that. My parents had complained over time but had gotten used to my routine after a while. My mom’s primary concern revolves around my lack of time for dating.

Lea causes my heart to skip in immeasurable ways. Her smile causes the warmth that could melt the snow in winter to reverberate my entire biological frame.

She made me forget all the worries that life and its cohorts came with. Was it because we had known each other all our lives? I think that’s just a contributing factor.

Being engulfed in her arms and creating room in her heart for my love was all I wanted and deeply desired.

It was like a breath of fresh air, unlocking feelings that were alien yet intriguing to me.

She brings out the child in me and makes me see life with a more intentional look. Her bright colors painted the monochrome canvas of my heart.

I’m lost in her voice as she continues to talk about her love for Frizzes burgers and strawberry milkshakes.

Sitting on the high stools brings some ridiculous memories back to my mind.

“Remember when we ruined Kelvin’s date with that super tall girl from Norway?” I let her into my thoughts.

Her laughter seemed uncontrollable as she threw her head backward and covered her mouth to avoid spilling out its contents.

“We were one mischievous bunch, you and I. Kelvin was finally fulfilling his dream of dating someone taller than he was, and we went ahead and crashed it.”

“In our defense, we didn’t know they were on a date. Kelvin’s hoarding of relevant information started a long time ago.”

“We had just come to play in our usual way, but things went south. I can still see the horror in her eyes when I slipped and spilled her milkshake all over her white romper.”

This made her laugh some more while holding her stomach.

Kelvin refused to speak to us throughout the summer for ruining his once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

“However, the spill gave her outfit a beautiful floral design, don’t you think?”

Life had been kind to Kelvin and given him Laurel. At least she was almost as tall as him. He still got his dream indirectly.

“You are absolutely correct, DM.” She laughs in her mischief like we were eleven and fourteen again.
