“So you’ll do it?” she asked breathlessly

“Of course. I’m just wrapping up the project I was working on, so I’m free and would love to photograph your wedding.”

“Wow, this really seems like fate. I'm so excited.”

“Me too,” I agreed, more relieved than she could imagine.

"There is the small matter of how quickly you can wrap up. Due to my pregnancy it has to be next week, but no biggie, ha ha,” she laughed. “So can you start next week.”

I nodded. “Okay.”

“Great. I want all the little moments captured.”

I nodded enthusiastically.

“I’ll be picking out a dress next week. Can you be there so you can take photos of the event and you also can meet the wedding planner and anyone else necessary. I haven’t really thought about a dress preference, but if I eventually see one that I fall in love with, I want the moment captured.”

I completely understood all that she was saying. I was so excited at the concept that I wanted to kiss her.

“I know what you want, and it’s just the challenge I need. I’ll make it special for you, trust me.”

She released a deep sigh of relief, then she rose to her feet.

“I'm so happy right now. You have no idea. Alright, let me get back and make the preparations;

I'll reach out to you next week?”

"Alright,” I said and immediately began to fumble through my laptop bag for a business card, but she stopped me with a gentle hand on my arm.

“No need,” she said.

“I follow you, remember? Your details are on Instagram, and I can always direct message you.”

“You’re right,” I said, a bit sad that she wasn’t giving me her number. I wanted hers in case she forgot about me or changed her mind. I didn’t want to sound desperate, but I really needed this follow-up gig.

“Can I have your number now either way?” I asked. “If it isn’t any trouble. I won’t bug you with any messages, but I'll save your name and look forward to your call.”

“Of course.” She pulled out her phone, and we exchanged numbers.

“Thank you so much,” I said, and truly I wanted to hug her, but I found a way to hold myself back.

“No, thank you for being here,” she said, and this made me laugh louder than I should have. It drew some attention, perhaps even that of the staff as well, but I didn’t care anymore. I had a new client, and once again, all was well with the world. I would survive the month to come, and it was much more than I could ask for.

I watched her leave, and then with more enthusiasm than before, I continued with my work, and in no time, I was done and out of there. Since I no longer had to worry about money, my mind was free to do my best work, but as usual, that anxiousness that this was too good to be true kept me on edge.

Chapter Two

Drake

“Sir?” my secretary called.

What is it?” I asked, trying to keep my voice neutral. It had been a difficult day, starting with a very disappointing and heartbreaking trip to the hospital.

I felt as if I’d been running for so long, and I had come very far. I was used to this pace and I didn’t want to slow down, but circumstances I couldn’t control were forcing me to.

I was used to putting out fires and finding solutions. It came with running a billion-dollar conglomerate, but this was different. I could never find a solution even if I went to the ends of the earth, and so far, I already had, but I was not giving up. I was going to carry on trying even if all that remained was a dead end.
