“Hugh, Dillon isn’t here.” The viper bitch rolled her eyes, but he didn’t seem to notice. “You’re talking to Brendan.”

“I know that,” he spat at her and returned his attention to Brendan. “Where’s Dillon?”

“Dillon’s not here. He’s at home with Kyan and his girlfriend.”

Jesse watched Salena visibly cringe at the mention of the word girlfriend. He couldn’t help it. With a smirk, he winked at her.

“I really need to speak with him.” Hugh scratched his bald head. “Can you ask Dillon to call me?”

“Of course, Hugh.”

A devious smile lit up Salena’s face then. It was probably the most genuine Jesse had ever seen her. “Ah. Here kitty, kitty.”

Shit!

Chloe and Bo were smiling and laughing as they made their way back to the plum velvet booth. The smile slipped from Chloe’s face when she saw who stood there. Bo wrapped his arm protectively around her shoulders.

Salena smirked and cocked her head. “Maybe you’re not as stupid as I thought, Jesse’s girl.” Then she grinned, displaying her even, white teeth. “Or should I call you Bo’s girl now? Congratulations, darlin’! He’s an upgrade from that has-been jock.” She turned her head and winked at him. “Not to mention a fantastic fuck.”

Chloe shrugged out of Bo’s arm. “Kyan’s right. You’re nothing but a fucking cunt.” Salena flinched. “And you don’t belong here. Bye-bye.” Chloe held up her right hand and waved.

Axel appeared once again.

Brendan patted the older man’s shoulder. “Salena has to leave, Hugh, and she won’t be permitted to come back. I trust you’ll take her home or wherever it is she wants to go.”

He nodded. “Yes, of course.”

Salena’s lips upturned in a sardonic smirk. She looked up at Brendan with a tilt of her head. “This isn’t the end, baby. It’s foreplay.”

She turned her head slightly and those amber eyes in the garish butterfly mask bored right into his, then she turned them on Taylor. “Did you breed her yet, rock star?”

Salena cackled like the witch she was.

Chloe swiped up a glass from the table.

Axel stepped forward to intervene, but he wasn’t fast enough. He escorted a very pissed-off, and a very wet, Salena out of the club.

Everyone at the table clapped. Jesse took his girl by the hand and pulled her onto his lap. He kissed her. Taylor kissed her. He kissed Taylor.

Brendan picked up the bottle of Glenlivet and refilled the glass Chloe still held in her hand. He took it from her and raised it in the air.

“Oíche Shamhna Shona Daoibh!”

Happy Halloween.

It was cold, even for late November. Snow had fallen the day before, just enough to paint the city white for the holiday. Jesse woke to a cloudless bright blue sky. The early morning sun shone through the floor-to-ceiling glass and warmed the room. He felt around the bed but no one was there lying beside him. And then he smelled it.

With a yawn, he padded into the kitchen. Something savory was happening in here. Chloe stood at the stove sautéing something—leeks and mushrooms if he were to guess. Bowls of prepped ingredients were lined up on the marble island behind her. He could smell the fresh herbs. Sage. Thyme. The Thanksgiving Day parade a backdrop on the TV.

She hadn’t noticed him standing there yet, so he took a moment to watch her unaware. So fucking beautiful. So fucking his. Theirs. He couldn’t imagine even a day without his little rose in it. She was what he was most grateful for this Thanksgiving, and he had plenty to be thankful for.

She turned off the gas on the stove as he came to stand behind her. Wrapping his arms around her slim waist, he dipped his face into the sweet, warm skin of her neck. It was still his favorite part of her.

“Good morning, Riosin.”

Chloe turned around in his arms and stood on her tiptoes to kiss him. Jesse hoisted her up to wrap her legs around his hips and he slipped his tongue inside her mouth, backing away from the stove as he kissed her until he felt the island’s marble edge press in behind him. If it wasn’t covered with the food she was preparing for dinner at Linnea’s, he’d lay her on top of it and have her for breakfast.

He eased her feet back down to the floor instead and she smiled up at him. “Good morning. Tay was already gone when I woke up, but I kept breakfast warm for you.”
