“Just dance.” Bo nodded in the direction of the upper-level dance floor. “And I promise to behave.” He winked. “But it’ll be hard.”

“Yeah, it will be,” Brendan snorted. “Hard.”

No one laughed.

“Tough fucking crowd.” He shook his head. “I’ve got to go check on the vamps downstairs. You guys have fun.”

“Vamps?” Chloe eyed Brendan.

Jesse smirked. He could only imagine what her mind was conjuring. If there was a vampire in it, she watched it. On more than one occasion he’d come home to find her streaming old episodes of True Blood, but it sure wasn’t Eric Northman playing downstairs in the dungeon.

“Blood is their kink.” Brendan half-shrugged with a smirk. “There’s an undeniable connection between sex and…”

Taylor loudly cleared his throat and looked to Bo. “Go. Dance.”

Chloe giggled and kissed each of them on the cheek, then she scooted over Taylor’s lap and left for the dance floor with Bo. Jesse poured himself some Glenlivet as he watched them ascend the grand staircase to the upper-level dance floor. Bo held her hand on his arm. Their waist-length hair, illuminated by the dramatic club lighting, fluttered behind them. When he couldn’t see them anymore he glanced around the club. And he did a double take.

Get the fuck out of here!

“Brendan, what the fuck is Salena doing here?”

“What?” Brendan turned around and looked over in the direction of the main floor entryway.

Even behind a mask, Jesse knew it was her.

“Isn’t that Hugh Brantley with her?” Taylor craned his neck to get a better look.

Brendan was speaking into his Bluetooth. “Who let Salena in?” His brow furrowed and that tick in his jaw was back. “I don’t give a fuck who she shows up with. She’s banned. Member privileges permanently revoked. Got it?”

“She’s headed this way, Bren,” Kit cut in. He and Matt were facing the direction of the entryway so they could watch her without being obvious.

“I can see her nipples right through her dress.” Matt snickered. “She must’ve worn it for you, B, because old Hugh can’t even get to half-mast.”

“I don’t even want to know how you know that.” Taylor scrunched his nose in disgust.

Matt shrugged.

Salena and Hugh reached their table and stopped. She held his arm with both hands, her fake smile plastered on her face. She may have mastered the skill of artifice, but she couldn’t hide the malice in her amber eyes. Jesse couldn’t help but wonder what she was doing here with Hugh. Except for the well-known fact that he had a shit ton of money, he was a far cry from her usual type.

Hugh Brantley was stout and bald. With a son older than Salena, he had to at least be in his mid to late sixties. He’d made most of his money in real estate. They’d had business dealings with him before. He wasn’t a bad guy.

“Brendan,” Hugh greeted him with a slap on the back. He glanced around the table at the four of them. “Boys.”

Salena pretended to ignore them and surveyed the faces at nearby tables. “Hugh, baby, the mayor and his girlfriend are here. We have to say hello.” She smiled and winked at Brendan.

“In a minute, dear. I have some business to discuss with Dillon.”

The mayor was sitting with his girlfriend two tables over. Salena was well acquainted with her—intimately acquainted actually. Jesse and Taylor exchanged a knowing glance. The mayor was here with his girlfriend, but his wife was at home.

Brendan was talking with Hugh, but one eye was on Salena. She licked her red glossy lips and toyed with her nipple over the single layer of sheer black chiffon that made up the bodice of her dress that Chloe would no doubt classify as trashy. Jesse looked over to Kit, who couldn’t help but stare at her breasts that were visible through the fabric. Her mask was black and garish with some kind of wings. Was it supposed to be a butterfly? It shimmered purple under the lights.

Salena rattled off a couple more names of prominent members of the club that she saw nearby. She’d gotten her intended message to Brendan and mouthed to him, “Miss me yet?” Then she tugged on Hugh’s arm and purred, “Can we go now, baby? Sherrie is waiting—you said you wanted to watch.”

“I said in a minute. I’m talking to Dillon here.”

Dillon?

The four of them sitting at the table eyed each other.
