“Do you think it’s possible to be in love with more than one person?”

“What do you mean?” Linnea tilted her head and furrowed her brow.

Chloe laid her head back against the chair and closed her eyes. “Like, could you love Kyan and someone else at the same time? Do you think it’s possible?”

“You mean a threesome?”

“Not sex, sweetie.” Chloe opened her eyes and glanced over at Linnea. “Love.”

Linnea was even more perplexed if the eyebrow she raised was any indication. “I couldn’t love anyone else the same way I love Kyan. That’s just not possible.”

Hmm.

She thought about that for a moment. “Doesn’t love feel differently with every person we love?” Chloe wasn’t sure her thoughts made sense once they were spoken out loud. “You can’t love any two people the exact same way, but then maybe that’s not how it works, yeah?”

Maybe it worked when you loved people the way they needed to be loved, not the way the world told you that you were supposed to love them. Chloe could never love Taylor the same way she loved Jesse in as much she would never love Jesse the same as Taylor. And maybe she wasn’t supposed to. If that was her goal then they were sure to fail, because it would never happen that way. Jesse and Taylor weren’t cookie-cutter men with the exact same wants and needs. She was supposed to love them differently. That realization came as a fucking relief. She didn’t want to lose Jesse. Or Taylor. Maybe she was falling in love with him, because there was no doubt in her mind that she loved what they shared together.

“Do you think they’re dry?” Linnea wiggled her toes. “It’s already five and Ky said to be ready to go at seven.”

Chloe had already texted Jesse to come pick her up from the salon. She was getting dressed at his place, but then she was rarely at her own apartment anymore, her nights were spent in Jesse’s bed—or in Taylor’s penthouse, ten floors up. “Should be. Is Ky coming to get you or do you need a ride?”

“I scheduled an Uber. He’s getting Marcus all set up to fill in at Charley’s tonight. I suppose I could have asked Dill, but I didn’t want to bother him.”

Bother him? Hardly. He’d have loved it.

The nail tech came to check on them and, deeming them sufficiently dry, pulled the toe separators from their feet. “Ready, sweetie?” Chloe eased herself out of the plush reclining chair. “I have a feeling tonight is gonna be one helluva night.”

Linnea giggled. “It will be a memorable one, that’s for sure.”

They stepped out of the salon onto the sidewalk on Central Avenue. Chloe scanned the street for Jesse’s blue Rover, but she didn’t see it. Linnea glanced down at her phone, checking the rideshare app. “Sure you don’t want Jess to drop you off?”

“My Uber is almost here, but thanks.”

Then she felt a tap on her shoulder and she startled. Chloe turned to find Taylor at her side. Tall, dark, and beautiful. She was a bit stunned he came for her instead of Jesse, but then he smiled at her. Not the fake smile he plastered on for the public. A real one. For her.

She smiled back.

“You look beautiful, darling.”

Darling.

He’d never called her that before. She liked the way it sounded coming from him. Chloe knew Linnea watched, standing on the other side of her, but she didn’t care. She placed her hands on his shoulders as she reached for his lips with her own and slipped her tongue inside. His arms came around her to hold her against him as his tongue met hers and instantly her clit began to tingle. She almost wished they didn’t have a party to get to, even if said party was at a sex club.

Sex-positive, Chloe.

Shut up, Brendan.

She giggled. “Thanks, rock star.”

Linnea didn’t bat an eyelash. “My ride is here.” She leaned in to kiss Chloe and then Taylor on the cheek. “See you at the Red Door.”

Taylor took her by the hand and laced their fingers together. “Let’s go, cherry cake. I have the car parked around the corner.”

It was a town car with a driver and blacked-out windows. Taylor opened the door for her and slid in the seat beside her. She looked around the interior, somewhat amazed, and gazed out the windows that no one could see inside of.

“What?” He watched her.

She shrugged. “I’ve never been inside a limo before.”
