Page 45 of Christmas with You

With Ace by my side, I could conquer anything in my path. He made me feel invincible with his unyielding love and the strength that oozed from every surface of his rugged body.

He was my everything.

After a day spent in the pool, the kids were snuggled up in blankets, eyelids drooping as we watched a movie all together. Amber was sleeping on Ryan’s chest, pure relief and contentment on her face. The frown lines that had been permanently marring her face for the last few weeks were absent for once.

The smile on Ryan’s lips had not left his face since the phone call last night. There was so much happiness pouring out of him – so much that his kids had soaked it right up and used that positive energy all day.

This had been a Christmas miracle. There were no other words for what had happened last night. God had finally answered all our prayers and given us an opportunity to provide for our families while starting a new life.

Ace and I were curled up on the couch, his head resting on mine as I laid on his chest, half-heartedly watching the Christmas movie the kids had insisted on watching.

They were all lying on pillows on top of each other, falling asleep just as the closing credits were about to roll in. Their cheeks were sun-kissed, their hair damp, their bodies tired from good old, clean fun.

“What are you thinking about?” Ace whispered, throwing the same question at me that I had asked him earlier.

I smiled and tilted my head up to him.

“Everything – all of us.” I gestured around the room. “To think seventeen years ago, this was all a dream – a dream I had of having a big family to love – and now, look at us. We’re going to live here. Ames and I are going to start our own business. You and Ryan will finally get the chance to start that repair shop. The kids are going to live a few minutes away from the theme parks on this gorgeous lake where some of my best memories are. I couldn’t be happier.”

He tightened his hold on me, his love pouring into my body.

“I never could have dreamed we would have all this – not when I came from so little. Back then, I just knew I had to have you as my wife because I had to wake up and see you every morning. I just knew I had to spend my life with you because you complete me.”

Was it possible for this man to still make me swoon?

“I knew that I wanted to have a family with you and live in a big house on the water. I wanted to look at you every day and fall in love with you a little more than the previous day. I got all of that.”

“Kiss me, princess.” His throat was thick with emotion. I leaned my head closer, my lips brushing his.

“I love you, ass—" His lips claimed mine before I could finish his nickname. I was wrapped up in everything that was Ace Danvers.

The love of my life.
