“We’ve run into a little hurdle at work – that’s all. Nothing you nor her need to worry about. You two need to be worried about helping your mothers get everything ready for the party.” Ace stood beside me, keeping his voice soft as he spoke. “Everything will be okay.”

“I don’t like when you and Mom fight. It scares me. So many of my friends – their parents aren’t together anymore because they fight a lot. I don’t want to live in two different houses.” Tears rushed down her cheeks.

“Oh, honey. Your daddy and I are very much in love, and nothing is ever going to change that. Don’t you worry about that.” I pulled her into my arms and held her tightly.

“What about Auntie Ames and Uncle Ryan?” Her voice trembled, breaking my heart.

“They love each other more than anything, baby. You and Maddi don’t need to worry about any of this. You need to worry about Christmas, and enjoy every moment with your family, my sweet girl.”

She sniffled and nodded. “Promise me that you and Daddy aren’t gonna split up like my friends at school,” she pleaded.

“I promise, baby,” I swore. Nothing could tear me and Ace apart.

“Dad?” She looked up with Ace with tearful eyes.

“I’d rather die than leave your mom, Summer. I love her too much.” He rested a hand on my shoulder, and I hugged our daughter to my chest.

“You never have to worry about that – ever,” I promised, feeling Ace’s hand tighten his grip on my shoulder in silent agreement.
