“Lock every window and door. I’ll only be a phone call away. I won’t be far, but I’ll be hidden. He won’t even know I’m around if he decides to give you any shit.”

“Thank you, but you don’t need to do that. Having Kendra over should keep him away. For tonight at least. Tomorrow, I’ll figure out where to go. I can’t stay in this town with him.” I raised up on my tiptoes and kissed his cheek. “Good night, Brian.”

He grabbed me around my waist and dragged me against him. His lips slowly descended to mine, his eyes scanning my face, giving me time to say stop. I didn’t, allowing myself to fall into his body and accept the kiss. My body lit up with electricity as his teeth nibbled my lips, his tongue darting out along the seam of my mouth, seeking entrance. I opened for him, sighing as he took charge. His right hand delved into my hair, cradling my head before grasping a handful of hair and tilting my head to his liking, taking the kiss deeper.

I felt the evidence of his desire grow against my stomach, and it spurred me on to take the kiss deeper. My touch affected him as much as his did me. He stepped back, breaking the trance, and my body leaned toward him before my brain kicked in. We both stood there, breathing heavily and wanting more.

“This isn’t over between us, but it is on hold until we can deal with Jason.” Brian steadied me before stepping down onto the walkway. “Lockup, and call me if anything is off. Otherwise, I’ll see you in the morning, and we will figure out how to move forward.”

I could only nod my head, still in a lust-filled haze, as I watched him return to his truck. He waited for me to enter and close the door behind me before cranking the engine and backing out of the drive. I knew he wouldn’t go far, and if I called, he would be here in seconds.

I called Kendra as I kicked off my shoes. She was happy to come and keep me company, allowing us to catch up. I started a pot of coffee and took out a chilled bottle of wine. I had a tray of cheese and crackers sitting on the coffee table alongside two wine glasses and the bottle of wine by the time I heard a knock on the door. I checked the peephole and found Kendra standing on my doorstep. I removed the security chain and unlocked the door, letting her in.

“Look who I found on my way here.” She smiled as she walked in, Jason right behind her.
