“You don’t have to answer.” I reassure them, just in case the question makes them uncomfortable.

Dawson blows out a breath and looks at me in all seriousness. “It's not that Scar. It's just umm…” He goes to continue but struggles to find the words.

“There’s a group that we are a part of back home.” Pike blurts out startling everyone. He seems shocked at the candour but continues on anyway. “There is a lot of pressure from not only our parents but from the leadership in the group. They have certain expectations of us and if we don’t meet them, it can be detrimental to a lot of people.”

“That seems really tough.” I sympathise.

“It is. We want to do right by the club. We share all the same values they do and the whole aim of the club and what we strive for is incredibly important to us.” Dawson continues on from Pike, with an edge of hesitation.

“I couldn’t imagine what that kind of pressure would be like.” They each nod, a little glum like they can’t help but think of everything that’s waiting for them back home. I don’t bother prying into the details about this elusive club they are a part of, deciding that if they want to tell me anything more, there won’t be pressure from me to know all of the gory details.

“Do you guys have any idea in mind on what your chosen paths might be?” I query.

“I know for sure that I want to go down the tech path. Not quite sure what exactly yet but that’s about as close as I am. Dad is wanting me to patch in as Secretary for the club” Sonny says, and I notice the excitement on his face.

“So you guys are like in a motorcycle club or something?” I say finally connecting the dots with all the hints they’ve been dropping.

Sonny realises that he fucked up in the obvious hint he dropped. He curses under his breath, looking at the guys apologetically. From the stormy expressions on the guys faces, it's obvious they aren’t happy with him. He turns his gaze my way. He gives me a quick nod.

“Damn, that’s hot as fuck.” I say with zero hesitation and it's obvious I said the right thing.

Sonny’s face instantly lights up. The other guys each snap their heads towards mine.

“Wait, really?” Dacre says, a hint of caution in his voice.

“Absolutely!” I assure them, noticing the way each of the guys drop their shoulders as if in relief.

“We aren’t meant to tell people that we are a part of the club.” Dawson says as he reaches over and slaps Sonny up the side of the head. “But this dickhead can’t keep his mouth shut.”

“It's all good. You guys don’t have to go into detail or anything if it'll get you in trouble.”

“Don’t stress sweetheart. You are pretty well protected here from that life.” Nicky smiles as if trying to reassure me.

“So, I guess that’s why you are so good at being able to find information then?” I turn to ask Sonny who straightens in pride.

“Fuck yeah. You want it found; I can find it.” He boasts, puffing out his chest.

“He really is good. He's saved our ass a heap of times with his information.” Dawson says.

“That’s so cool. What about you guys?” I ask looking at Nicky, Dacre, Pike and Dawson.

“Well, I’m set up to take the reins off my father once he retires. He is the treasurer of our club.” Pike says.

“Is it normal for you guys to take over once your family retires?” I question. While I said that I wouldn’t stick my nose into their business, I can’t help but not have questions.

“Ahh, yeah, I guess you could say that. It's only common in leadership roles.” Dawson says with an edge of hesitation still and I don't blame him. Trusting a stranger with this kind of information would be a lot.

I nod in reply. “That makes sense. What about you guys?” I ask Nicky, Dawson and Dacre.

“Dad really wants me to take over as Enforcer.” Dacre says, but the excitement that Sonny and Pike seem to have for their position isn’t shared.

“That sounds dangerous?” The thought of these guys in danger sends a strange ping of anxiety through me.

“It isn’t too bad. It's really just making sure everyone abides by the rules and dealing with those that don’t.”

I nod in understanding and turn my question towards Nicky and Dawson who share a look.

“Things are pretty up in the air for the both of us. Our Dad is the Vice President of the club. Normally Nicky would have slotted straight into the heir role I guess, but the current President's son says he wants one of his friends to take over as VP.” It's obvious this fact pisses both Dawson and Nicky off just by the looks on their faces.
