Pain shoots through me as I hear voices and a machine beeping.

Then I feel hands on me as I open my eyes.

“Rock?” I squeak.

“Babe.” His voice is smooth and full of worry.

When my eyes eventually focus, I realize I’m sitting on a bed.

“Where am I?”

“The hospital.”

“Oh, God. Tara…”

“It’s okay, she’s been arrested.” He sits up, and I snake my arms around his waist. “Your father’s on his way.”

I start to cry. “She’s the one behind all of this?”

He strokes my back. “Yes, I’m sorry to say she was. I had a guy break into her house…”

“You what?”

“Anyone close to you was bein’ watched, thoroughly. We were just too late in realizing what she was up to.”

“Why would she do this to me?”

He holds me as I try to find the words without breaking down. “To hurt you because she’s obsessed with being with you. I figured the relationship had its challenges from what you told me, but I never suspected she was bat-shit crazy.”

“What happened?”

He sighs. “You need to rest.”

“No, Rock. You need to tell me, please.”

He relents. “She was going to kill you, so I’d kill her. Then you could be together.”

My breath hitches in my chest. “She… Why?”

I know I’m repeating myself, but none of this adds up.

Tara and I have had our ups and downs in the past, but I never thought she was capable of this.

“To make sure she got to be the last. She was tired of living in the shadows and wanted to have a real relationship with you. She pretended to be some guy on Facebook to taunt you, never feeling bad about what she did. In fact, she found it amusing.”

I screw my face up. “She did that? Oh my god…”

He kisses the top of my head. “I’m sorry, babe. She admitted it. You moving away didn’t help. She couldn’t cope without having you there. I guess when we got together and she didn’t get her way, it was the final straw.”

“How do you know…”

He pulls out his phone. “I never wanted you to see this, but once you do, you might understand the level of depravity she was sufferin’.”

Sliding his thumb over his phone, he shows me a photo. It's a wall covered in pictures of me. The entire wall. She’s even drawn pictures on my face and torn off the place where Dylan was on one of them.

“Oh God.”

“I know. She’s goin’ to jail for a very long time.”
