“Is what about getting your attention?”

“Telling me one thing and doing another. The minute I let you have an inch, you take a mile.”

“Dad, it’s like living in a prison cell. I’m an adult now. I don’t have to do what you say.”

“Don’t be so dramatic. Do you know how many girls would kill for this lavish life you lead?”

“The same can be said for a poor girl who has freedom, Dad.” I know it’s not the same thing, but he doesn't get it.

He stares at me. Of course, he comes from a line of well-to-do successful businessmen who were all born with silver spoons in their mouths. I’m not saying I dislike privilege, but how can I compare when this is all I know?

“You can have freedom, when this is over.”

“I’ve heard that before.”

He sighs. “This is for your own good.”

“Do you really believe those threats?”

“Yes, and so do the police. They’re taking it very seriously. This all came full circle after the show aired your brawl. Until the police can interview everyone on set, you’ll be in hiding. I’m not backing down on this.”

“Why a fricking motorcycle club?”

“Because I trust nobody.”

“Except Cash Hudson?”

“He owes me, and yes, I trust him. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be sending you there.”

I snort.

He frowns at me. “What’s so funny?”

“You trust a bunch of bikers over industry professionals.”

“It’s either that or the mafia.”

My eyes go wide.

“I’m kidding,” he says, and I don’t want to ask.

My father is involved with other rich, successful people, but I’ve never questioned his moral high ground because he’s my dad. He’s known as a bulldog in the industry, but to me, he’s just my overprotective father.

“Do you ever wonder if maybe this is about you, and not me?” I say, the words flying out before I can stop them.

“Of course I’ve thought about that, but going on that show didn’t help.”

I cringe at his face of disappointment. My father’s a handsome man. Some would say a silver fox who any red-blooded female would love to lock down, but that just makes me want to gag thinking of him like that. Even though he’s never settled down with anyone since my mom.

He sighs. “The police will look into everything, so will my guys. For now, this is what’s going to happen, Aspyn. Don’t fight me on this. This wild streak of yours going on a reality show and airing your dirty laundry on television isn’t from my side.”

I stare at him blankly. He means her.

If only he knew. My bark is worse than my bite. I’ve had to put on this front my entire life. Rich girls aren’t allowed to have any issues. Life is perfect when you have the best schools to go to. The best clothes to wear and your father drops you off at school in his Bentley.

“Why bring her up?” I mutter, shifting uncomfortably.

He shrugs. “Because it’s the truth.”
