Her lips part as she whispers. “Rock? Are you serious about him?”

I shrug, giving her a sly grin. “Maybe.”

She shakes her head. “I seriously can’t let you out of my sight for more than a week. You’re already planning the wedding, aren’t you?”

I laugh. “Don’t be silly.”

“I’m glad to see you’re in good spirits, that’s all that matters.” She pats my shoulders like my Dad does.

Sometimes I forget just how different we really are.

“Oh,” I say, waving my hand toward the dining table as we get closer. “This is Manny and Deanna.”

Tara smiles politely but doesn’t move to greet them. She’s like this a lot and not overly friendly with people she doesn’t know. Some people think it’s rude, but she’s just shy around strangers and a complete introvert.

Of course, Manny stands to open his arms. “I’m a hugger,” he declares.

Tara makes a little surprised noise when Manny squeezes her into a hug. Deanna just waves politely and says hello.

I roll my lips and try not to laugh at Tara’s startled expression.

“Don’t you just look like heaven that fell out of the sky,” Manny comments, standing back to admire her. “I’ll have to go to LA someday.”

Tara tucks her hair back behind her ears, a faint blush rising on her cheeks. She’s not used to public displays of affection, and aside from me, she doesn’t have too many other friends. I’m used to her quirky behavior, but some people think she’s plain weird.

“It’s…uh, really something,” she says, lost for words.

“Laguna Beach told us all about you,” Manny goes on.

“Laguna Beach?” Tara looks at me.

“Don’t mind him.” I link my arm through hers. “He has nicknames for everyone.”

Deanna rolls her eyes. “It’s so annoying.”

“Be quiet, Arizona,” he laughs. “I think Tara looks like Heaven Sent to me.”

I laugh, nudging Tara. “He’s a dork.”

Tara smiles and turns to me. “Could I use the bathroom?”

“Of course! Sorry, I’ll show you around.”

Pirate runs past, not even bothering with Tara. He’s fickle like that.

“I’ll bring your bags in,” Manny declares, strutting over toward the door.

“Thanks, Manny!” I call out as I show her to the powder room.

“Who are those people?” Tara whispers when we’re out of earshot.

I smile excitedly. “My new friends.”

Her eyes go wide… “The boy…he seems really…I don’t know…out there.”

“Don’t worry, he’s awesome. You’ll love him.”

She looks at me dubiously. “Well, you really don’t know them that well, babe. I mean, they are part of the biker club, right?”
