She exhaled, and her shoulders softened beneath my hold. “You’re right. Sorry. I just know how my sister gets all worked up the minute something doesn’t go to plan, so I tend to do my best to not kick that off. Especially now that she’s knocked up. That anxiety of hers can’t be good for the baby.”

“I’m sure you’re right, but I’m confident my boss will keep her in line.”

Just like that, a switch flipped.

Her hands flew to her hips, and she fired back, “In line?”

Damn, this woman was a spitfire.

“You know what I mean. He’ll do what he can to keep her calm. Like I’m trying to do here,” I said but then muttered, “for whatever good it’s doing.” In a normal volume again, I finished my thought. “I don’t like seeing you so stressed out. Plus, it makes me tense watching it.”

“Sorry.” And the switch flipped back because she grabbed my hands and squeezed them. “I really am. Are you almost packed, though?”

“Yep. I’m ready. Can I help you with anything?”

“Actually, yes. That would be great if you could put the stuff in the bathroom into my makeup bag.”

“Sure. Where is that?”

“It’s in there on the vanity.” She continued describing where while I headed to the bathroom. “Can’t miss it. It’s that quilted, floral thing that looks like a big purse.”

I laughed at the image that painted in my mind as I hustled into the next room. I found the bag right where she said it was and gathered the things that looked like they didn’t belong to the hotel. I reached for a small velvet square that looked like a thin wallet but knocked it to the floor in my haste. Her birth control pills slid out of the sheath and lay on the marble floor. Well, that answered a personal question I wouldn’t have to pose now. But when I picked them up, I noticed she was behind in taking them by about three days.

“Wife!” I shouted and stalked back into the bedroom.

“Really, man. Stop calling me that. It’s ridiculous.”

Choosing to not address the topic, I held up the packet instead.

“Oh, shit. I need to take one of those,” she said nonchalantly.

“Actually, looking at the packaging, you’ve skipped several days.”

“Okay, I know you have your paper that is giving you this weird notion that things like this are your business,” she said and snatched the packet from my fingers. “But this is definitely not your business.”

“Are you sleeping with other people currently?” And this part definitely was my business. If my employer hadn’t interrupted us just twenty minutes ago, I’d be coming inside this woman right about now.

“I really don’t think this is the best time for a conversation like this, Carmen. I mean, they’re waiting for us!” Her agitation was ramping up, and I couldn’t help but wonder if it was truly about holding up the other couple or if she didn’t want to tell me the answer.

“You know what, you’re right. We can chat about it once we get on the plane.”

She visibly relaxed and went to dart off in another direction, but I caught her by the arm and stopped her.

“What?” she asked with very little patience.

“We will have this conversation, Storm.”

Her glare would’ve been lethal to someone else. She had no idea the experience I had with my father and the extent of the man’s temper and foul disposition. I wasn’t moved in the slightest by her amateur version.

The grin that spread across my lips seemed to really piss her off.

Agatha yanked her arm from my grasp and buzzed across the room to finish packing. I was momentarily transfixed by her energy and temperament. No idea what it was, or why it was this girl, but my dick swelled in my boxers. I wanted nothing more than to bring this little storm all the pleasure and ecstasy I knew how to deliver. She needed a reason to yield to me, and that just might be the way to do it. Keep her in a sex fog so she didn’t have time to spark up all this manufactured drama.

For the most part, though, she didn’t strike me as a drama queen. One of those women who turns every hill into a mountain simply because they thrive in chaos. No…I had a feeling there was an actual reason behind her hot and cold personalities, and I really had to ask myself before I got in any deeper with this fierce little lady… Is she worth it?

Only time could tell me the answer to that one. The problem with the wait-and-see mindset was I didn’t have the luxury of time to wait.

When we got back to Los Angeles, some decisions would need to be made.
