Can you try to drink some of the smoothie, princess? I’m sure you're hurting, but you need to get something in your stomach. That should have everything the baby and you need until you can start eating food again.

Lyric takes the notebook from me and nods her head slightly in response. My mom holds the cup for her at an angle so she can use the straw on her own. It takes a few minutes, but Lyric is able to get some of the smoothie down. Like me, she really can’t have a lot. Still, as long as she gets something in her, I’m happy. We’ll both work on eating, or drinking, a little more each day. I’m gonna make that a goal for us right now.

My mom sets the cup aside and makes her way back over to my dad. Paige finally wakes up and stretches from her spot on the couch. She’s handed a bag of things by my dad before he lets her know there’s a bag of food they brought for her on the stand at the end of the couch. She thanks them before pushing the blanket off her and grabbing the bag of food. Inside there’s a cheeseburger, fries, a soda, and some kind of cake for dessert. My mouth waters at the food she gets to eat. Eventually I’ll get back there. For now, I’m gonna eat what I can until my throat is healed.

The rest of the day, Lyric and I sleep on and off. We sleep more than anything else. Lyric especially. She needs to sleep more than I do. She’s not only resting for herself but for the baby as well. I’ll make sure she gets all the rest she needs whether we’re here or at home. Like we agreed, we’ll do whatever is necessary for her to not have a miscarriage and remain as healthy as possible for our baby. Or babies if Doc is to be believed.

Chapter Twelve

Lyric

WE’VE FINALLY BEEN released from the hospital. The last ten days have been insane and completely boring. Despite being released, we’re both essentially on bed rest because of our injuries. We can’t move around very good and have wheelchairs. Getting in and out of that damn thing is painful and means someone has to pick me up every time I need to get in it. Usually it’s Tank, but Hawkeye and Ricochet have helped me as well. None of the guys pick Shawn up. He’s helped in his by his dad or brothers. Most of the time it’s more than one of them because of how big he is. The only time we get in the damn thing is when we have to go to the bathroom. Tank tried to carry me to the bathroom when we first got home but it hurt too much. So, now we’re pushed to the bathroom in the wheelchairs. From there, I can kind of maneuver myself to the toilet and back again. Still, it hurts no matter what I do.

Everyone has been in our room at the clubhouse at one point or another. They visit, make sure we don’t need anything, and bring us food. Well, they bring Shawn food and I get a smoothie or a thin milkshake. That’s about all I can eat right now. I can’t wait until my jaw isn’t wired any longer so I can actually eat something. I’m gonna have to start out with soft foods and shit, but anything is better than a smoothie and milkshake diet. I’m gonna hate that shit by the time the next five weeks are over with. And I love milkshakes. Shawn isn’t really impressed with the soft food diet either. Until he goes back to see Doc, he can’t eat anything else. So, we’re both just trying to make the best of our situation and wait until we can move on and are finally healed enough to get back to our lives.

The one bright spot in this entire situation is that Tara did come in to talk to me. She heard I’m interested in working for her when the shop finally opens and hired me on the spot. I can’t wait to get off bed rest and be healed enough to start working. No matter how long it takes, she’s going to hold a spot for me. Tara is so damn nice for doing that. Hawkeye was in here when she was telling me about the job and offered to hold it for me. He didn’t take his eyes off the girl and I could see interest and something else in his eyes every single time he looked her way. Which was often. However, I also know he doesn’t trust anyone and I have a feeling that’s going to change with Tara. I have a feeling she’s gonna knock Hawkeye on his ass and it’s going to be fun to watch.

Venom has kept us up to date with everything going on. Our mother and her boyfriend are still missing. The guys have been out searching every day from the time they wake up until they go to bed. Even the guys from the Phantom Bastards have been out searching for them. No one knows how they managed to disappear so easily and remain hidden. That’s one thing I’ve learned. The other thing is that the Phantom Bastards is another club who are allies with the Wild Kings. They’re a few towns over and also a second generation club. Everyone in the club there are starting over for some reason and are trying to make sure the town they’ve moved to gets cleaned up and remains that way.

Neither club lets drugs, prostitution, or anything else in their town. The very second either club hears about anything going on in their town, they step in and take care of the situation. Everything I find out about the club and the men in it only makes me happy I found Shawn. He’s one of the good guys and I’m ready for us to get this over with so we can get back to being ourselves. All of the guys in the Wild Kings have been there for us and they make sure we don’t need anything.

I met Skylar and she’s amazing. The woman wants to take care of everyone around her. She’s Haley’s mom and I’ve learned that’s where Haley learned how to cook and bake the way she does. That woman is a magician in the kitchen and I can’t wait to actually eat the food she makes on a daily basis. With Skylar comes Joker and Cage. Joker is nice and funny. He’s always going out of his way to make everyone around him laugh and have a good time. Cage is scary as hell. He’s almost as big as Tank is. While Tank gives off a vibe that he wants to be alone and for everyone to stay away, Cage is completely different. He glares at everyone and makes sure people give him a wide berth.

Apparently everyone is coming down to Cedar Bay. By everyone, I mean all the parents. It’s not the first time they’ve all been here in Cedar Bay for one reason or another. Now, they’re all coming down to help aid in the search for my mother and the asshole with her. I hope they find them and make them pay for what they’ve done. Not just to me, but to every single person they’ve ever encountered in their lives who they’ve hurt or destroyed. I want the families to have their revenge and know they don’t ever have to worry about Lucifer hurting them or someone they love again.

Paige has been missing since we got released from the hospital. She checks in once a day and doesn’t stay for very long. When I’ve asked her why, she gives me some lame excuse about not wanting to be late for work or needing to help the ol’ ladies as they prepare for the families to come down. I’m not buying her excuses. There’s a reason she’s not spending time with me and I know what it is. She’s upset because I’m pregnant. She wants to be a mom so bad and I know that. When she learned I was pregnant, it had to break something in her. I know my sister good enough to know she’s hurting and will do her best to push me away from her until I have the baby. I can’t even guarantee that she’ll be there for our baby. I need to talk to her about things and it has to happen sooner rather than later.

Grabbing the notebook we keep on one of our nightstands at all times and the pen, I write a note to Shawn. We haven’t been up for very long again and I’m really tired of sleeping all the damn time.

Do you think we could sit in the common room or something today? I’m so damn tired of being in this room. I know we’re supposed to be on bed rest, but if we’re in the wheelchair then we’re not moving around.

I get Shawn’s attention and he takes the notebook from me. He reads the note before turning and giving me a small smile. He writes me a response before handing the notebook back to me. Unlike the hospital, we can’t hold hands or anything now because Shawn has to be the one closest to the door and that means our hands closest to one another are the ones with casts.

I’d love to go out in the common room, princess. Doc wants you on bed rest though. That means not getting out of bed to go sit in the common room. I’m sorry. The second she lets you off bed rest we’ll go out there and spend our time with everyone out of this room. I love you and only want to make sure you’re safe and that nothing happens.

I sigh when I read his response. It’s still kind of hard for me to read things because the swelling is going down, but my eyes haven’t been able to open fully yet. I’m getting close to them opening all the way, but this entire process sucks ass. Most days I can’t see how much progress has actually been made since the day I woke up in the hospital. Very few times, I can appreciate what’s healed or not giving me as much trouble as before.

I know. I’m just bored. I’m sorry, Shawn. We have everyone taking care of us in here and I know I shouldn’t be feeling this way. There’s nothing I can do about it though. I just want to get out of bed. I don’t know what I’ll feel like if I have to remain on bed rest for the next seven months. I’ll drive myself, you, and everyone else insane.

Shawn takes the notebook again and sighs himself.

I know, princess. You won’t drive me insane. I’ll be there every step of the way no matter what you have to do to keep our little one safe. Hawkeye, Ricochet, my parents, and Skylar are working on a surprise for us. I’m not sure what it is, but my dad told me earlier we should know later on today. Maybe around dinner time. That’s why they haven’t been in here to see us today.

Before I get a chance to respond to Shawn’s note, the door of our room opens. Paige is standing there with a tray in her hand. She offers me a small smile and walks in. After setting the tray on the dresser, she moves back to close the door. My sister brings the tray over to us and sets it down on the end of the bed where our feet aren’t.

“I’ve got your medicine and something to eat. Or drink in your kiss, baby sister,” my sister says as she gets our medicine first and hands it over to us.

Shawn and I are both still on antibiotics and pain medicine. They want us to take it as directed for now so we can stay on top of our pain levels. As we continue to heal, we can start tapering off our use of the pain medicine. At this point, we have to take the antibiotics until they’re gone and then hope we don’t need to take anymore after that. Or at least I am. I hate taking medicine for any reason. On top of those medicines I have to take multiple times a day, I’m also on a prenatal vitamin I take first thing in the morning. That one I won’t ever bitch about taking because it’s only going to help make sure I have what I need in my system for the baby.

“Skylar made you a strawberry smoothie today. I know that’s one you haven’t tried yet. I had some before I came in here and it’s pretty good. She told me to tell you that she’s going to try to make a new one on a daily basis. We all know you’re sick of drinking these things so she’s going to do what she can to make sure you have a variety until you can get those wires removed,” my sister informs me, her voice showing the strain she feels coming in here.

The one thing I can be thankful for is that I haven’t had any morning sickness. Well, I mean I feel nauseous all throughout the day, but I haven’t gotten sick at all. Right now, that’s a good thing considering the broken jaw and wires locking it shut.

Flipping a page in the notebook, I write something for my sister.

Are you okay? You don’t come see me unless you absolutely have to and even then you leave after a minute or two. I don’t know what I can do to make this situation any easier or better for you. Can you please talk to me and let me know what’s going on?

Handing the notebook over after she’s given Shawn and me our food and drinks, she reads my note and closes her eyes. Her shoulders sag and I know she feels horrible for whatever is going through her mind. I’m not going to let her off that easy though.
