Tanya collapses onto my chest, limbs tangled with mine. I hold her close, my heart pounding in time with hers. This feels right in a way nothing else ever has.

I stroke Tanya’s hair as she nuzzles into my neck, her breaths slowing. A warm contentment suffuses me, bone-deep and soothing.

“That was…” She trails off with a soft laugh.

“Yeah.” I press a kiss to her temple. I’m at a loss for words…none seem adequate.

She props herself up to look at me, her eyes shining. “You’re amazing, you know that?”

Heat floods my cheeks. I glance away, unused to such open praise.

Tanya cups my jaw, forcing me to meet her gaze. “I mean it. You’re kind, caring…and sexy as hell. Any woman would be lucky to have you.”

“I’m the lucky one here.” The words slip out before I can stop them. But it’s the truth. How did I ever get so stupidly fortunate?

A slow, radiant smile lights her face. “So, you’re saying I’m the prize here?”

I snort, some of the tension easing from my chest. I love her ability to diffuse a moment with her sense of humor.

“Don’t go getting a big-headed on me now.” I tickle her ribs, grinning at her indignant squeak.

She swats at my hands. “Jerk. Here I am, complimenting you, and this is the thanks I get.”

“My apologies, milady.” I drop a playful bow, unable to keep from smiling. “How can I make it up to you?”

“Hmm. I can think of a few ways…” Tanya straddles me again, desire darkening her gaze.

I grip her hips, heat pooling low in my gut. “Is that so?”

She nods, trailing her fingers down my chest. “But I think we have all night to explore them, don’t we?”

“Count on it.” I crush her mouth under mine, and we get lost in each other once more.

Chapter twelve

No Regrets

Brian

As I wake up, the sun is filtering in through the curtains. I reach my hand across the bed, searching for Tanya, but she’s not there. I jump up and look around. Has she run away?

I soon find her in the dressing room, fully clothed.

“Hey, you,” I say. “Breakfast?”

“I’ve got to go,” she says, not looking me in the eye.

“Come on. Something small?”

“I can’t.”

“I’ll cook,” I say, as I walk towards her. I try to give her a hug, but she steps aside.

“Really, no, Brian. I have a client waiting for me.”

“Of course,” I say, deciding not to push this any further. Whatever the situation may be, it will resolve itself when she’s ready. I show her to the car and we say an awkward goodbye.

I walk back inside, confused. Why the awkwardness? I don’t know what she’s thinking, but not for a single moment do I regret what we shared last night. Maybe the age difference is playing on her mind. With that thought in my head, I decide that I won’t initiate anything from now on. The last thing I want is to make her uncomfortable or to push her desires aside. I value her far too much.
