I start laughing. “Don’t worry. Take a quick shower, and you’ll be just fine. Something to keep in mind for the future in werewolf society, if you don’t want everyone to know what we’ve been up to. Not that I’d mind if they do,” I say, pulling her to me for a kiss.

“Oh, good lord. Well, good to know,” she says, pulling away from me and walking toward the stairs.

“I’ll come with you,” I say, following her to the stairs. “We’ll clean up together.”

“Oh, no.” She pushes me playfully. “I know that look. The point of this shower is to get clean.”

“It doesn’t have to be,” I say with a grin.

She shakes her head and laughs as we both travel up the stairs, but I do allow her to have her own shower while I use mine. Finishing sooner than her, I join her in the guest room and sit on the bed while she goes into the closet to dress. She returns wearing a sexy pair of dark jeans and a fitted white sleeveless shirt. I smile at her while she shakes her head and giggles, continuing to walk past me and into the bathroom. I follow her inside to find her brushing out her hair and pulling it into a high ponytail. She’s teasing me. She knows I love it when her neck is exposed. My parents know what the relationship between two new mates is like. They’ll understand if we’re a little late for dinner.

As she starts applying her makeup, I extend my arms and stretch in front of the mirror, then reach down to lift my shirt over my head. I catch her watching me in the mirror. Her eyes trace my body, starting at my chest and trailing all the way down to where my jeans hang low on my waist. I grin and watch her in the mirror while she continues applying her makeup, pretending to be unaffected by me.

Stepping behind her, I start massaging her neck as I whisper in her ear, “Have I mentioned I really like your hair up like this?” I trace the line of her neck with my finger while my other arm wraps around her, my hand splayed out on her lower abdomen. She inhales sharply and I feel her hold her breath.

“You have.”

Moving my hands to her shoulders, I lean into the curve of her neck, inhaling and growling. I know she can feel my straining erection as I press my body into hers. “You alwayssmell so fucking good.” I nuzzle into her neck, making her breath catch again. Her body sinks into mine as I begin to kiss her neck, and I release a sigh of satisfaction as she braces herself on the countertop.

“Ethan?”

“Hmm?” I whisper into her neck.

“I know what you’re trying to do,” she says through broken breaths.

“Is it working?” I ask into her neck with a grin.

“If you’re asking if you’re having an effect on me, the answer is yes.” I turn her around, kissing her deeply while she puts her arms around my neck. I release a growl as she kisses her way up my neck and teases my earlobe with her tongue. “It’s still not happening,” she whispers into my ear and shifts back toward the mirror with a devious smile.

She totally just fucking played me. If my mate wants to play, I’ll give her what she wants. We’ll play. “Just wait until I get you alone later,” I say through laughter.

“Sounds like I have something to look forward to through dinner.”

“You can fucking count on it,” I say with a grin as I leave the room.

Olivia

We grab a couple of bottles of wine on our way out the door and head to his parents’ home for dinner. My stomach is in knots the entire drive and I feel like I could throw up a little bit. We pull down a private lane surrounded by pine trees to reveal what can only be described as a rustic lodge mansion in the woods. The front is almost entirely covered in stone. It makes you want to go inside to sit by the fire with a warm drink. As Ethan parks theBMW in a large circle driveway, the nervous butterflies are going berserk in my stomach. I let out a deep breath, and he takes my hand.

“Hey, don’t worry. They’re going to love you.” He kisses me and gives me a reassuring smile. His phone chimes as we’re about to get out of the car. “It’s from Max,” he says. “One of his partners, Jillian Carter, will be over tomorrow morning to examine you for your transition.”

“Oh, well, that’s good news.” The butterflies in my stomach are unsure if they share the sentiment.

“It is,” he says with a smile. “Let’s go.” He squeezes my hand, and we hold hands as we walk up to the front door. Ethan gives the door a few knocks before opening it and walking in. “Hello?” he calls as we enter.

“Coming, honey,” a woman responds. “Hello, sweetheart,” she says to Ethan as she rounds the corner to meet us.

“Hey, Mom,” Ethan says, hugging her. His mom is beautiful with shoulder length dark brown hair and gorgeous, vibrant green eyes. She emanates elegance and sophistication.

“So,” she says with a smile, “you must be Olivia.”

“Yes. Hello, Mrs. Sullivan,” I say, feeling the butterflies bubbling up again. “It’s so nice to meet you.”

“Please, call me Caroline. It’s lovely to meet you too,” she greets me with a tight smile as she studies me. She’s friendly on the surface, but I get a gut feeling something else lies beneath.

“And you can call me Edwin,” Ethan’s dad says as he comes around the corner from behind the kitchen. He kisses me on the cheek and pats Ethan on the back. His dad looks like a slightly older version of Ethan, sharing the same dark hair and icy blue eyes. There’s a laid back comfortableness about him.

“Hello, Edwin. It’s very nice to meet you.”
